OS 32 SX-H .. will it be enough for my first S.P.A.D ??
Hello EvErY 1 ,
well i kinda had it with Heli's and balsa kits .. i'm in the process of buildin' a S.P.A.D and it's almost finished ,
My Q's r :
will my heli's engine OS 32 SX-H be good enough for ??
Wingspan: 60"
fuse: 50"
Weight: 6.5 lb = 3 kg
Can OS 32 SX-H be compared to OS 46LA or OS 40FX ??
32 SX-H (rpm 2,000-22,000) , (hp @ rpm) 1.20 @ 18,000
46 LA (rpm 2,000-16,000) , (hp @ rpm) 1.20 @ 15,000
40 FX (rpm 2,000-17,000) , (hp @ rpm) 1.36 @ 16,000
Thanx ..

What kind of SPAD are you building? What kind of flying do you intend to do? If you're building a 3D plane, it might not be enough to hover. If you're building a trainer-type of plane you should have plenty of power. My best advice is give it a try. That's the only way you'll know for sure.

Thanx Gravityisnotmyfriend ,,
yes it's a trainer .. and i hope it'll add somthing new to the SpAd's world , cuz it's made of a 2/3 mm thin (aluminum) sheet .. wing , fuse , everything is (aluminum) ,, no Coro no Balsa no PVC ,, cuz i couldn't find any ,, so i had to look for something else and there it was a 2/3 mm thin (aluminum) sheet ,,
i'll post some pix later on ,,

If You have any metal to metal rubbing, You'll get radio glitches.
So make sure You do a range test at all throttles settings.
Good luck.
Jeff

Hey, I finished a trainer (Coro) that is about the same measurments and weight. I mounted an O.S. 40 and it does fly, but it takes a long runway and must be pavement of some sort. won't take off in the grass or gravel. it was quite an amazing site to see it finally take to the air. It weighs 6.5 lb.
The plans called for a .40-.46, I ordered a .46 to switch out the .40 with. I get it off the ground and hand it over to my son (13 yrs.) and he is able to fly it fine. had a the engine quit on the first flight about 50ft. up, and it came in like the spaceshuttle and we had a perfect landing without hardly touching the stick.
waiting for my new engine...patiently.
thanks
Deacon

rsieminski, nice web page, lots of useful info. I like the control line plane. I've been a c/l flyer since the late 70's. My son and I purchased a Hobby Zone electric (Challenger) and learned to fly R/C . then we found spadtothebone.com! , needless to say we're hooked.
The trainer we made was very forgiving, I crashed on the first flight..stalled, (then set the dual rate on our Futaba, to discourage over controling the elevator). changed the prop, then off it went.
now, we're in search of 2 1/2 inch square PVC, I did find a Lowes nearby and hope to get over there today.

Thanks, I have not updated it in a long time. I've been busy with a new boat, and home remodel projects. By June I hope to be back into it full blast again.
