Most streamlined WW2 Fighter?

Anyone care to take a stab at this one? I'm thinking maybe Ki-61 or possibly the yak.

P.S. I'm just talking as far as making a rc racer, so the original airfoil is irrelevant.

Both are low drag.Look also atthe Bell P-39/P-63 &/or Macchi C202/C205.

How about the Martin Baker MB-3? This is one I would like to do eventually.

Yup the MB-3 is a good one. :D
Next months race at SAM's will see this plane with a wing area increase to make it legal for a "slightly" larger engine.
As it flies now the planes handling is all sorted out and with more power it will be a real fun ride in the Gold class.

So are thy going to allow this plane in the races this year??
Some other good ones would be the He 100 and Spiteful they both have good renolds numbers.

The Ki 61 Is a good plane for that. It has a nice strait tapered wing with an aspect ratio of 6.61 which would be nice for racing. (Aspect ratos of 7 to 9 are best for racing, but generally not possable in scale unless you exagerate. I pesonally don't like to ruin the scale outlines.) The ta 152 I'm working on has an aspect ratio of 8.3.

I got one Tim, just needs to be finished. Has been flown and flies really well but not really a racing airfoil. I'll get it done eventually. I've also re-drawn it at a smaller scale specifically with the intention of making it a warbird racer but I have not moved forward on that one beyond cutting some parts.

Nice MB Tommy Gun. This may be my favorite single engine fighter in the looks department.

Its looking good, what kind of engine do you have in there?

tdstaf and I have spoken of another plane not yet mentioned.
I think this one would be a real winner. Look, no belly scoop! :D

Thanks Chad, but I can't take credit for this plane.
It was designed and built by snickerson, the guy that won First in the bronze class at the race yesterday.
I'm just helping to fine tune the handling and setup.

Is that the He100?

Folks used to fly that one in .15 sized quarter midget racing, I think.

And Tommy, and it's not a mustang!!!! Whoo Hoo!! The he 100 is on the drawing board, the ta is moving along great as well as my george build parts are coming for the bearcat, ki 61, and ki 100. I am Going to start a thread on the Ki's as a build pair, then I'll start the he 100 some where a round the beginning of July.

Hey Chad, that ki 61 looks great what size is it and what are you powering it with.

I think I like it, I was thinking 309 for a while but don't like the trike idea. Interesting it sounds like the Ki-61 was influenced by the HE-100 rather than the 109, you learn something new everyday.

Yup, it would make a very cool looking racer but that wing looks pretty tough to build.

Accually The wing is really simple. What size plane are you looking for?

RE: Most streamlined WW2 Fighter?

Make mine based on a 520 sq in wing please. ;)

I was thinking about making a 40 sized speed plane kind of skinny scale type thing.

Hey Chad, that ki 61 looks great what size is it and what are you powering it with.
Span is 71 inches, power is an old OS .90sf two stroke, and the ready to fly weight as you see it here is about 9 1/2 pounds. Still needs details and paint but should be around 10 pounds all finished up. This one was never meant to be a warbird racer though. I have also considered the HE-100 and actually have done some design work on that one, though it has been on the back burner for a long time now.

The MB-3 is still probably top of my list but here are a few other projects I have considered/am considering for potential warbird racers:

[img][/img]I like the Mig I-220.... I found the 3-view and pictures in history of mig aircraft book ... I thought it looked fast and has a distinctive and different outline. It also has no external scoops.... all the intakes are in the wing leading edge. I Built one about 10 years ago.... It flew well with 442 square inches for wing area and powered by YS .91 AC. Maybe resized to 520 square inches with YS 1.15 could do the trick!!!

I love some of these planes you guys came up with but I kind of want to simplify the design so I want a simple wing and fuse. I like what speedracertrixie did with the machi fighter, get the profile right but keep the design pretty basic. The Ki-61 seems like it would be a perfect design for maintaining cool looks and streamlining when simplified. I'm finally going to break down and by a scroll saw so I have ambitious plans of making some cool one offs for myself.
