RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Good luck Jake I did that at the end of March and I did not get the Garage in a state to build before I went off to England, I may have been able to make some races if I did not move, and then end up spending 2 months out of the country.

So will we see you at all this last race? We notice when your not racing or at the BBQ "yuckin" in up.

Santa came early this year. Finally cashed in one of my winning coupons from the last race. Just need to get the mount and we are in business. Should be done in just a couple weeks. Kudos to Verano for getting the motor to me in less than 48 hours. I think Richard stole the Flux Capacitor from Marty's De Lorean.

RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Well after considering all my options I decided to go ahead with the Dave Brown mount system. The link is below.
I went with the Vibra Damp T Beam. https://www.dbproducts.com/index2.htm Now if I can just remember how to center a motor on a firewall! :) |
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Well, no work on the Tempest, but here is a video on the two motor mounts I bought for the Tempest. Better than nothing! :D

Very nice building bench there Jake!
|
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Thanks: The bench is working great.
New Video with the motor installed. We are getting there, for sure. May have this up in the air in the next couple of weeks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2OuKGyjZyM |
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Jake,
If you want to reinforce the firewall further, and are already planning on running some epoxy on the inside to fuelproof it, why not add a layer of 4 - 6 oz. fiberglass while you are at it. The weight of the cloth is nearly nonexistent, yet the increase in strength and rigidity would be very significant. Ollie<br type="_moz" /> |

Thanks Ollie for the heads up on that.
Here is a pic with the cowling one. Now she is starting to look like a real warbird. |
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
By the way, what size is the spinner that comes with it Jake?
|
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Let me double-check that, I think it is 3 1/2 inches but let me get back to you on that
Here is another video before its maiden on Sunday at Beale AFB. Crossed Fingers!!! ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQGMY...1&feature=plcp |
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Confirmed 3 1/2 on that spinner Tim.
Maidened the Tempest today at the Beale Blackbirds Freeze Fly. Motor started great and got her trimmed. I have a little too much throw in the ailerons and rudder so I will have to bring those down a tad. Flew fine but I was running her rich and ran out of fuel mid-flight. Was able to get her on the ground without too much of an issue, but got a few cracks and rips in the fiberglass cowling so I will need to order a new one. Also picked up an aluminum spinner to replace the plastic one. Was not real happy with the plastic spinner. Sorry that I did not get video. I was planning to have more flights, but I did not want to force it with the cowling issue. In all, very pleased with the flight characteristics and I do believe we Have A Horse! As soon as I get the cowling I will get it up again get some film. Stay Tuned... |
RE: Getting a Tempest Ready For Silver
Shucks. I was hoping the it was the same size as the scale spinner for my tempest/typhoon but no go. It's going to be a 4" one .
Sorry Jake. |
