Default Headspeed

I have an Evo/os37 in a 50 size fuse.I was just wondering what the rec headspeed is for a scale machine (500e).

Any advise would be appreciated.

I'd probably run it around 1550 or 1600

I run 1500 and 1650 on my Vario Bell 222

I have a Thunder Tiger MD500 scale fuselage with Fury Extreme mechanics. I have to run about 1500 RPM head speed. Anything more than that and I have severe harmonic vibrations transmitted into the vertical stub fins at the ends of the horizontal stabilizer. They vibrate so fast you can't see them at higher head speeds. You may not run into that problem because of the shorter tail moments of the 50 size fuse.

I'm not sure how a .37 will like being lugged down to that RPM. Lower RPM means more pitch to lift the same amount of weight. It's not a problem with my heli because I have an O.S. .91 that pulls like a John Deere tractor! I also use a 8.45:1 gear ratio instead of the usual 8.18:1 that .91's use to keep engine RPM up and head speed down.

Keep a close eye on your engine temp.

Thanks guys

I am having a problem at the moment.I am getting serious vibes with the current headspeed which is way to high.,as its the same as i had in the pod and boom.(my first scale heli so a learning period again for me).

If i bring the headspeed down to 1500/1600 how much extra pitch do need to add in the middle/hover.

My settings are as follows at the moment

throttle curve 0,25,50,75,100
pitch curve 0,5,9

I thought of changing the throttle curve to 20,40,50,60,100 so as to have a better control in the hover. What are your thoughts on that?

would i need to increase the middle pitch above the 5 deg mark as the headspeed will be slower.

I need a bit of help on this one please. A suggested new pitch curve

Thanks

It's almost impossible to suggest a pitch curve for your heli. Every heli is different. The pitch curve and throttle curve have to be set to compliment each other. I try to maintain a steady RPM throughout pitch curve. If you not running a governor it will never be perfect, but you can get it close with enough tinkering. Setting the pitch will depend on the RPM desired, weight of the heli and power available. It's really a trial and error procedure. If you have any heli pilots close, you might want to look them up and walk you through the set-up procedures. It does require a bit of explaining.

I do try to have the collective/throttle stick a little above half way at hover. You didn't say what stage of flying you are at, so it's also hard to give instructions not knowing your abilities, or even what type of flying you intend to do.

Since you are using a .37 engine in a 50 size scale fuse, you're not going to have a lot of engine to spare.

Another thought...Have you checked the balance of the Main blades, tail blades and the flybar? Another vibe problem can come from a bent tail rotor shaft. They may run at 8000 RPM and even a small bend can produce a significant vibe.

Thanks for the input

I would say i am still in the learning stages as far as flying goes.I am not into 3d etc etc.Just want to fly my scale as scale like as possible.I am in ff and can hover in all directions fairly spot on.As far as the setup goes as you have noticed im still learning a lot.I am on my own as far as the setup goes.No heli pilots within miles where i live.I did set up the initial heli myself and taught myself to fly so i dont mind making small changes until its right. I think having the .37 doesnt help me to much as i would have to be fairly precise ,but i will give it a go.I will decrease the headspeed/increase the pitch in small amounts and see what happens.I am running on 15% at the moment.Maybe an idea to change to a higher nitro fuel.If all else fails i will change to an os50.

Thanks again for the help.
