A-10 Project

RE: A-10 Project
Looking good, Doug. We're running just about parallel again. I finished my inboard flaps, and will start on the outboard set today, I hope. I'm mounting the rudder and elevator servos at the moment. I'll post my progress soon.

I am proud to say that I am back in the saddle again!
Some how I lost heart for a while over the winter. But a couple of visits to the filed and some encouragement from the gang got me going again.
I got the two pieces of the wing glued last night.

Anyone know where Ron got to?
Ron, if you are out there. I am curious to hear how things are going with your Keith Sparks A-10.
give us a shout with your new e-mail. I think that your old one died off!

Wing pieces are now glued and sheeted.
Ready for sanding.
Control rods are installed and holes for airhoses are drilled and ready.
On to the fuselage...

Hey Flypuck,
can you post pictures of the nose retract. although our plans are different I see similarities. I am figuring on having the wheel fold up into the very tip though to scale it will have to be a couple of inches further back. Where are yours going?

RE: A-10 Project
Thanks FlyPuck. I wanted to make sure how off centered to install the wheel - this is my first time with retracts. I like the way that you installed the valve. Where are planning to put the air tank and your radio gear? I will be installing the retract in the space that the plans call for the radio gear. I also need to find a good place to put the tank.
Also, I noticed that you cut nice regular relief cuts on the fuse side panels. How did you do that? And, no tri stock! Are you planning to round the front of the fuse?

I am using the standard Robart pnematic set made for the 40 size airplaces. I think that Flypuck is using a different set though. I can get you part numbers if you want it, but go to their website and you will see the full selection.
Also, they just added a spring loaded version that extends when pressure is lost. SpringAir had that until recently. I went with Robart cause SpringAir couldn't tell me where to buy their gear!

RE: A-10 Project
Looks familiar Sina;-). I'm using the Robart 630 retracts. I think they would be too large for your model. They're almost too big for mine. As far as the cut out for the wing, I glued the doubler on the fuse side at the proper position and angle and wrapped some tape around a side cutting bit in the Dremmel Tool to make a kind of router and used the doubler as a guide. Worked out pretty well.
I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with the nose. I may put some triangle stock in to allow for proper shaping or I may just leave it and have a not so scale shape. We'll see.

Sorry. I thought you were building the smaller version. If you're just getting started you should check Paul's thread also. There are a ton of mistakes in the plans. Mainly on the wing. The fuse seems to be pretty correct. Here's a link to Paul's thread:

No big deal FLY. Yeah I have checked pauls thread, I found his website first then found a link to this fourm. Yeah I saw where the wing ribs are drawn wrong. I have just about everything cut out just got to glue it together. And start buying hard parts.

I'm not sure on power yet. I May run the OS .46's but at 270 each it's going to be awhile before it fly's. I saw you are going to be running the K&B's. Where did you get them, also where did you get the fans?

RE: A-10 Project
The fans are Turbax 1 available through Jet Hanger Hobbies. I picked the engines up on Ebay. Both new in the box. If you use the OS engines I think you will need a Turbax II or Turbax III. You may want to contact Larry at JHH and find out for sure. Either way, the fans will cost more for an OS engine.

Here is the fuse progressing...
all formers are in and the nose block and the stringers are glued in place.
Next is to wrap the sides around the top. Kinda thick for curving 1/8". I figure I'll wet them and use lots of pins! Any other techniques?
