Hello rgunder,

I have a full kit waiting to be assembled, I don't recall if the wood to build the tail surfaces is included in the full kit. Is it?

Regards
Hi eromeros,

Yes, the full wood kit does contain all of the balsa necessary for the tail build. Please post your pictures as your build progresses.

Cheers,

Rich

Hey, I just noticed that the great planes M12 is 2 meters long and has about the same wignspan as this plane if I'm not mistaken.
It is set up for more high end 3D, so has anyone thought of stretching the fuselage and running it on a 50cc as a 3D plane?
What else would have to be changed?

We are still here, but we had an issue with our spam filter - your email was unfortunately a victim of that filter. I have sent you the quote that you requested.

Great looking build, by the way. Can you give some detail on how you changed the tail structure?

Thanks!

thank you for your quotation. Unfortunately shipping cost is more than items cost than i will try to solve in my local shop.

Tail structure :

I dislike flat tail and wires than i redraw it with a simmetrical profile. Please rename txt file with .dxf and import in your cad.

Obviously is not like the real one.
Hope you like it.

Glonline, the real M12 uses the flat plate airfoil created by making the tail sections from tubing and flat ribs so the use of a flat airfoil on the model was not just to make it cheaper to produce. It was actually a nod of the head towards scale fidelity.

fuse building problem :

wings are 350 mm wide but in fuselage from F2A to F5 there is only 332 mm.

Do I have to cut rear edge of the wing ?

glonline, the plans (fuselage side view) show the trailing edge skins should be trimmed to fit. The amount of trimming depends on how sharp you make the trailing edge - a blunt trailing edge will not need as much trimming. I hope that makes sense.

Hey all! Very interesting thread! I have been thinking about scratching a bipe for my Moki 210 for a long time now. I will read through the thread when I get back from work and see if this one will fit. If it does and I can acquire the necessary resources (balsa is getting scarce ...) I will definitely order the plans. Just figured I say a quick hello first

I've powered mine with a 1.80 Moki. Although it's short on power it flys very well. My only modification was to use music wire for cabanes and landing gear.

Beautiful build Zpat - what did you use for covering and what size music wire did you use for the cabanes and landing gear?

I covered with Monocoat and used 3/16" music wire for the cabanes and landing gear.
I soldered some heavy duty electrical lugs to attach the wing.
The wire on the landing gear has been doubled up and wrapped in a couple of places with soldered copper wire.
The wood structure on the cabanes in the picture is a carrying handle to ease transportation. It's is removed to attach the top wing.

I've added a Bisson Sport Muffler to the Moki 1.80 in hopes of extracting more power from the engine.

I may build another for a G-62.

A picture of the plane I attempted to copy is also included.

Hi all,

With the new year comes some changes to what we are going to offer in the future for the Spirit of Pitts. We will continue to offer the plans for download free of cost on our website, and we will continue to offer the short kits, but we will be phasing out all the accessories over time as we get through the stock on hand. As you know, I have been working to find an affordable way to continue to bring you a high quality canopy and cowling option, but alas the unit costs were simply too high and the market too small to make it feasible, so Gunderson AeroDesign will no longer offer these accessories. The full wood kit is suffering a similar fate, as having metric balsa custom milled requires a volume larger than the market can sustain at this time. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please note that for the two most difficult parts to scratch build (canopy and cowling) the plans and the short kit still include the formers necessary to build a wood cowling and a canopy mold.

Thanks for the continued support and happy 2011!

Hi guys,

I'm happy to tell you that my pitts was exposed in a little italian rc-plane show (only as static model)

photo's always here :

https://picasaweb.google.com/glonline/PittsM12#

Some problem with main landing gears ( it needs wires to avoid opening) but all seems to be ok.

Maiden flight in one month....

I've made canopy master but I didn't use it. I found a canopy from another plane ( extra )...just after the master, as always....

Anyway thaks glonline
I feel miserable, cause y try many different ways to make canopys but did´t find the right material (policarbonates and poietilentotaftalato are the best but difficult to find in the right thikness) so for middle and little canopy the best untill now it´s been go to the supermarket and got the biggest transparent and smooth bottle ( water or cold drink) cut it and with the heat gun molded.
