Hello all,

I'm working on my first scratch build (FSW-3 over in the electric forums) and I've reached the point in the fuse construction where I have to start planning and building in the necessaries for the control rods. (push rods.. whatever...) The plane is 40 size, sport plane, with, theoretically, good aerobatic qualities.

Anyway, the plane has pretty typical 4-channel setup. And for this first scratch build I'm not wavering from plans too much.

The plans call for push rods to be made of the traditional metal on each end, and wood dowel in the middle.

I'm wondering if modern equipment might be better and lighter. My LT-40 kit has a metal push rod ends that screw into a plastic tube. That in turn slides in another plastic tube. So I thought I'd try something like that.

So I started looking through Tower's online listings, and I got confused. There seems to be different sizes for the metal rods. And I don't know what size I need, and then what size clips I need for the end, the tubes, both inner and outer. I wish there was a "bundle" package available that had all the "bobs and whatnots" needed for a complete setup.

I'm hoping for a few things.

1. What are the typical application for the various size rods. (I remember seeing 2-56, and 4-40, maybe a 3rd size) Are some for park-flyers, midsize, or giant...
2. An example of a typical set up. What parts/pieces fit together to connect the rudder to servo, for example. In other words could somebody BOM out a "bundle" for me?

Once I get an example setup, I can start experimenting if I need to, I just need a little help setting up a "starting point."

If you are going to put those aerobatic qualities to work I would recommend a Pull-Pull system for the rudder.

I use pushrods like this, but use carbon ''arrow shafts'' instead of wood. The problem with these (wood or carbon) is they tend to vibrate, so I keep them short by putting the servo as far aft as possible.

Use pull-pull for rudder.

For .40 size 2-56 harware is adequate.
