Default prop selection for float plane

What size prop should I start with on a SuperStar 40 with GP floats? I am powering it with a Thunder Tiger .46. Please help!

10 x 6 prop would work great if it doesn't hit the water. Ge much longer and you won't get off the water because the spray will slow it down too much.

Default Prop

An 11x5 APC would be ideal. The larger diameter and lower pitch give better acceleration and climb performance at the expense of a little less top speed. Try that first and if it sucks up too much water, then go to a 10x6.

I agree with JRF: I'd use an 11-5 for a first try, just for the extra initial acceleration. You may find that a 10-6 is worth the extra flight speed, after you are used to taking off and landing on the water with the 11-5. I use an 11-4 on a Jerry's little boy with a 40FX.

Default 10 x 6 I guess...

I have several 10 x 6s, so I guess I'll start with that!
