Lanier Mariner 40 Seaplane
I just ordered this plane. I've read the review, and was still wondering what mods (if any) or water proofing I may need to do.
Thx...

The three we built whould have been tail heavy. We moved the servo's up front under the hatch. By doing that we could balance the plane with just the battery no weight.

We had two with os .46 fx and one with a os.50sx. I think the 50 is as powerful as the 61. Like JRF said check your balance with the servo's just sitting in there loose. I just know the 3 we built where tail heavy

The one I did for the review was tail heavy also, but the plane was so light that adding the extra weight in the nose was no problem.
Remember, depending on the type of plane, adding weight is NOT the end of the world. You may not want to do it to a racer, or a 3-D plane, but adding a few oz's to the Mariner is no sweat.

RE: Lanier Mariner 40 Seaplane
I've had my Mariner 40 for 2 years with over 100 flights and have not had any structural problems or problems with the wing joiner. The ultracoat covering had to be patched here and there but that's expected with a seaplane considering how much abuse they take from the H2O. In my opinion the Mariner 40 is well designed and a good entry plane for the first time seaplane pilot.

It all came in the mail today. Yee haa! Looks great. Hope to get her started this weekend. Thanks for the potental problem with the joinner. I was thinking of doing mods to the mast to beef it up some. I think with the size of the OS 61 it would hurt. Nothing major, maybe just some doublers or something.

The problem with that mast is twist. The engine is held firmly in the up and down direction, but moves easily from side to side. Anything you can do to prevent that twisting will be helpful.
I stripped the covering off mine and soaked it in thin CA, but that didn't help much. I saw one that was fiberglassed and that worked a little better.

This is one of the companies that offers a choice of the different colors. I'm sure that there are others also -

Just type in "mariner 40" in the search box and it takes you right there.
