caster oil and water???
i'm thinking of getting a seaplane...the place i'll be able to fly is the city water supply...they dont allow gas boats, just the trolling motor boats...
my question is will castor oil leave an oil slick on the water???will it harm the water supply???
thanks,john

What is a "trolling motor boat ?"
I'm pretty sure you don't have the right to fly glow aircraft there, methanol and nitro are serious poisons [:'(] ! And some may be left into this water supply...

i'm not sure if you have them in france...but we use 8 foot jon boats and minkota trolling motors...trolling motors are used for fishing when you don't need the big gas burner...
THE FUEL IS POSIONOUS[X(][X(]
well maybe i better rethink the seaplane deal...thanks fro the post...

Is the water supply the only lake in the area??? Don't give up to soon if you don't have to.. You dont know what you'll be missing if you dont try floats....

As for flying in the water supply lake, why not go electric, if they don't mind you flying there. Security might also be an issue at a water supply,,, since 9-11

RE: caster oil and water???
well let me put it this way...it is a big lake...about half the lake is for recreation...swimming,fishing,boating and camping...the other half is cut off from gas powered boats...i'm thinking that is the water supply...the only thing blocking the boats is a chain link fence that stretches the length of the water way...
now that said,
i'm wanting to fly in the half that is closed to boats...because people boat all year long...i'm wanted to stay out of the main part of the lake...i'm guessing that seaplanes don't like the waves that a boat can churn up...
i think what i'll do is call the water works dept. and ask if it's ok to fly...if they say no i'll have to fight the boats for air space...
thanks john

It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.
The Florida Float Flyers have been flying at the same lake in Florida every Saturday for years. The lake is healthy and there is abundant wildlife. No floating fish, floundering birds, or dead vegetation aalong the banks.
Yes, the glo motors leave a temporary oil slick.
An ounce or 2 of glo-fuel in a 100Million Gallon lake is not a significant contamination. Thr methanol IS biodegradable. Probably the nitro, also. It's unstable enough that it probably decomposes spontaneously.
If glo is still a problem: Electrics have been developed to the point that you can have a practical electric seaplane.
