First Float Plane.. What about a CUB ?
Hi all,
few months ago, I bought a Discovery 40 from VMAR.. It's a trainer plane.. I had good fun with it and now looking for a second plane to buy.
I want a second plane that will be able to go in water.. and in groud. I would also like a nice plane that will fly well.
What about the GreatPlanes CUB ?? ( http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1310.html )
Would it be a good plane. Also the floats ( http://www.greatplanes.com/accys/gpmq1882.html )
Thanks

Yup, Cubs are very, very popular float planes.....you could even put your trainer on floats if you want to.
If you check the AMA web site, Bruce Nelson did a great article on setting up a plane on floats...

My advice would be to get a set of floats for your trainer, and get a second plane of your choice for your second plane.
Reason?
Water can be very hard on a plane. So why not take a chance of ruining the one you're done with, and having your new plane in good shape?

I agree with Mike. If the floats you are going to buy for the cub will work with your trainer, put them on it first. That way you can get practice on the water, before putting the new cub in jeopardy. Jeff

My first float fly was with a GP Cub 40 and GP floats. No instructor or training, just a little research. I find it easier to land this plane with floats than wheels, turning is a little more touchy, takeoffs and easy. I agree get a set of floats and practice on your trainer first.
Good Luck.
