GP .60 size float covering questions
I am covering my 60-sized floats and i was wondering..... how do you cover the front? Also, how well does the monokote work? Does it usually keep the water out? thanks... -Dan

RE: GP .60 size float covering questions
I'd recommend glassing and painting the floats. They take a beating
from the water and eventually the water will peel the monocote off.
Yes I know some have had success with monocote but for longevity
and ease of maintenance glassing works best in my opinion.

RE: GP .60 size float covering questions
A few years back I built a set of Goldberg Superfloats. They're built up and almost identical in size to yours. I covered mine with Ultracote and never had any problems. Also my Sea Cruiser flying boat I covered with Ultracote. Never sealed my edges or anything and never had any problems.

RE: GP .60 size float covering questions
I did a set of GP 40-size floats with MonoKote... It worked pretty well..
The best advice I would have is to treat the entire float with BalsaRite before covering (that is the 'extra' adhesive stuff)..
It makes it a little bit of a pain when you cover all the seams with the 1/2-inch wide strip of covering first (per GP recommendations), because the iron will stick to the extra glue. I just used a trim sealing iron for most of this process.
With the BalsaRite, all the monokote went on fine. I have used it on other planes and it keeps the monokote on very well..

RE: GP .60 size float covering questions
I really can't say how the monocote works because I covered my G.P. 60 size floats with glass and epoxy. It worked great and has good abrasion resistance. (run it up on the shore all the time) Painted with Luster-Cote and resisted oversanding the epoxy-works great.
