RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
I managed to roughly model the windshield and it indeed put my patience to the test: a lot more work needs to be done but at least I saw I can deal with it. Once it will be ok the patterns will be made available with the plans so that future modelers won't go nuts because of the guesswork involved.
I'll also make a mold for a fiberglass one.

This is due to the fact that the model features veryy simple sections thus requiring no advanced tooling.

I am amased at your work. I wish I had the ability and software to doany of that. I know just enough about computers to get me in to trouble. Nice work. Rich

Thank you Rich!
Give it a try if you can, it sure looks harder than it is, believe me. There are lots of resources to get started with and they usually deal with everything you will ever need (we are not pros are we?).

Just Great G !!.[sm=thumbup.gif]
No time to work with my CL right now.So I'm just waiting for your updates.
I found these while I was googling......
An easier and simpler way for main gear construction of aluminum tube and 2mm sheet (..I think...).
Great solution for those guys without machine tools.

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
I'm sorry I'm pretty stuck with the 215 right now as I'm both waiting for laser-cut pieces and getting other models ready for the flying season (too many years spent building rather than flying...).
I'm now working on a drop plane for my RC skydiver that seem to be a lot of fun!

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
g_boxwood Thanks for your redirect to this build thread. Due to my fight with health issues in the last year, I have all but given up on building. But now your detailed reporting on this build has re sparked an interest in breaking out the glue and woods. As I understand you are reworking the plans, I was taught as a young man to look over, study and re study plans before the first cut ever takes place. As for the set that Dumas released I have not spent as much time I need to but the detail of his plans really caught my attention. Thanks again and I am looking forward to your progress

Giacomo, do you happen to have an r/c flight simulator?
Reason I ask, is because I have Real Flight, and there is a nice CL-215 model you can download and fly in the sim. I was flying it last night.

cf: There are three possible CL-215 downloads. If you are not already familiar with getting planes from the Swap pages, be sure the first one you download and install has an "EA" extension. That is for "entire aircraft". After those come the "AV" extensions which are variants and if you have not previously installed the EA version nothing will work.
When your sim is running, click on "Import" and then in the dialogue box click on "G3X, RFX Files" and look for the model you downloaded. It helps to download them to a convenient place. I use my Desktop. Once you select it, hit enter. Real Flight does the rest.

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
I've just got my Robart wheels and air kit ,so I decide to finish with the front gear instalation.
First step was to close the square opening that Dumas design for the steering servo. I replace it with a new oval opening ,
just to pass the cylinder through.
The front cylinder is a front mount from Festo and I order an extra swivel mounting for it.
Then I took 2 angles (simple metal furniture angles) and I cut them in order to support the swivel mount.
4 more holes to keep the angles in place and the mount is ready for the Festo cylinder...

Next step was to construct some adaptors from Festo 4 mm tube to Robart tube. So, I turn my mini lathe on and
some time after the result was a couple of shiny brass adaptors.
Everything in place and here is a video of the working front gear retract.......

RE: Bernard Dumas' Canadair CL-215
hi guys
i started bulding the CL-215 about 2 mounth ago by wing.
and now i've some questions .
1- can i use two RCV90SP or the wing can not stand with them?
2- about the maximum weight that the CL can be?
