I'm expecting my new Cessna 182 from CMP Airplane (www.cmpairplane.com). It is larger larger than ARC Modelfly's Cessna 177.
Wingspan is 2.1 meters (82 inches). I plane on putting a 140 nitro or a gas engine.
Can anyone suggest a set of floats bearing in mind it weighs close to 12 pounds (5.3 Kg).
Appreciate your input & help.

Ralph will make you some nice floats here: http://www.geocities.com/planefunfloats/
Or you can order these which are also good, but a little less scale-looking http://users.cwnet.com/zdgreg/index.html
Length should be about 75% of your fuselage length. I estimate that to be 50 inches.
If you want "Scale" floats, look up "Sea Commander" floats. They are epoxyGlass, beautiful, expensive, and work very well.

Thanks for your reply.
Of course the Sea Commander floats... but boy they are priceyyyy!!
Do you think the float kit from arcmodelfly would fit? Athough their Cessna 177 is slightly smaller?
They look nice & they are scale...and much cheaper... (http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/116030.asp)

I think they are too small, but I can't find much specific information on the web.
A couple of options if you want to make your own:
You could scale these plans and make some from wood:
http://plans.rcmodell.hu/ltwt40.jpg
or, I assume there is a source for styrofoam in Egypt, make your own from Foam.
http://www.flyinglindy.homestead.com/skisandfloats.html
This gives you dimensions that will work. If you want to be artistic you can carve the foam to make them more scale-like. Tapered sides, rounded tops, teardropped tails, etc.

Neat!
I love the plans .... I'm thinking of carving a pair out of foam then make a mold and finally fiberglass floats.
(and ..yes... all sorts of styrofoam is available in Egypt..even blue foam for modeling)

I am in the process of gathering parts to put my Cessna 182 on floats. What I found is the Balsa USA float for 1/4 scale EDO float kit length is 44 1/2" , they should work fine! I am powering mine with a G23 inverted and only thing that will show is the plug wire and cap outside the cowl. Pictures will soon follow as soon as I find my Digi camera from evacuating from the fire this past week! [&o]

The Modelfly floats for the Cessna 177 are the same floats they they use for the .40 Ready float plane. Although they are good floats, I think my Cessna rides a little lower in the water that it should. I would not recommend them for anything larger.

Is the jury still out on this?
DB - so, what size and mfg of float did you put on your CMP Cessna 182?
Also, did you go with a 120 or 140 4-stroke engine?
I wanted to purchase one of these but they have been all sold out for a couple of months now, and you've started my dream project.
Kindly keep us all posted.
Thanks

Here is the latest picture of my Top-Flite Cessna 182 Skylane on Balsa USA 1/4 scale floats covered in chrome Monokote. I haven't flown it yet

In reply to Primodus. I used streamline aluminium tubing with 4-40 wire inside. I epoxied a small balsa block inside to secure the wire after connecting DUB302 clevis to each end. I made custom connections on the plane and the connectors on the USA kit for the float ends. Measurement of lengths were made after establishing the position of mounting the floats following the position discussed in the forum re--- CG, wing incidence, step location etc.
In hind sight, I might have lifted the plane a little higher from the floats ( maybe an inch) but I personally think the photos on some commercial sites of the 182 or 185 look too high. The full size Cessna does not sit as high as a Piper Cub on its floats.
Note the photos of the fittings
