Hi Fellows;
Ice will soon be off the lakes here in Ontario. Just pulling the Beaver back out of the hangar in prep of the up coming season.
Some pics from last year. It's one of the original KMP Beavers.
Alot of areas were reworked but now flys very well.
Same characteristics as the full size aircraft.
Have a good season.
Regards
Randy

RE: Show us your Beaver!
Gedday Randy, good to see yo back.
Tell me if you would... how are you retracting your ernst rudders? with a servo for each? what size? also do you have wires off the rudder for steering too or ya got servos for that?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi Fellows;
Thanks for your comments. As mentioned, the model has been trimmed out fairly well now. But I did put a ventral fin on for a little more stability in the air. Haven't tried it yet, was about to before the water "tightened" up last fall.
See attached pic of the ventral fin. ( built very light and covered with mylar)
Hi Paul nice to chat again, have been pretty busy re work etc. etc. now back to the models, yah.
1) I have to "fess up" on the retractable water rudders, that pic is "photo shopped". My brother at the time had a new lap top computer where he could enhance, erase, switch around etc. the pics. So I asked if he could retract the rudders and sure enough there it is.
The other thing in that pic, is take a look in the cockpit. You will see a faint pic of yours truly wearing a white T shirt with sunglasses.
( That was the only pic that we touched up)
2) I ran out of channels on my radio thus no retarct rudders. Yes you can have retract rudders. A fellow modeler here in Ontario did a nice set up running a cable system down through the bottom of the fuse then into a "Y" down to pulleys on each float then to the rudders.
3) I mounted servos in each float, has worked pretty well but I did modify the float access hatch. (Yes a little water will get in the floats).
Stay in touch fellows.
Regards
Randy

RE: Show us your Beaver!
LOL good one Randy! We should all edit our aeroplane picture with ourselves as THE pilot. Nice touch.
May be wrong of me using this thread... but has anyone modified the stock KMP Beaver wheel undercarriage to work/ look better?? Any hints or pictures would be grateful!
chow for now,
Paul

I fabricated a more functional landing gear, it does not look scale our was it meant to, but it is solid
and works fantastic.
I also had to rebuild the tailwheel assembly.
the gear that came with it, well you know what it is, need I say more!
actually , just to add my 2$, this Kit is way overpriced for what you have to go thru, to make it functional.
I would have been better off to have built it from scratch.

RE: Show us your Beaver!
Thanks for that there Goldie... sure looks solid all right! and very functionable. Love to see some-one that has added some bolt on wheels to their floats ( see picture below )
and thanks Denis for that on the E-Beaver, Must try Horizon and see if they'll send to me like Tower would. I have all the e-gear for one off an earlier "25" size electric that took a dive. Your's sure looks swell. Speaking of Moose... you'd be world famous if you can to NZ and went hunting for one in our Fiords. Apparently they're there but very illusive.. i believe.
Happy landings, and thanks foryour replies.
Cheers, Paul

Here are some shots of my Ikon Beaver from an earlier post. This is the first color scheme that I had. The floats are Ikon with Klett 1/4 scale tailwheels for nosewheels and homemade main gear. Six screws in each float is all it takes to go from wheels to floats. I think it makes a convincing amphibian. I also fly this airplane with simulated hydrolic wheel skis.

RE: Show us your Beaver!
Totally awesome! Do you simply just un-plug the wheels for water use? Love to see some close ups of the wheels especially the mains if you have time ( hope so )
Top stuff thanks for showing us.
Cheers, Paul

RE: Show us your Beaver!
I finally got my KMP Beaver into the air today. Saito 1.7 tripple with Sonics onboard glow. Glow on a switch instead of the throdle. It took almost all of our 600 ft. runway and a headwind to get it airborne. Finally got some speed and it dsropped a cylinder with the glow on. Plane weighs 17# and using a 16/6 prop on the Saito with 10% nitro. It seems that the engine should have much more power. Anybody have any ideas?

RE: Show us your Beaver!
Really! 600ft? Bugger, doesn't look good for me and my saito 180 FS single banger! You on wheels or floats? I'm guess wheels ( ie runway ), so you using the stock wheel set up??
Were you able to tacho your 1.7 with the 16x6? I'm planning on using an 18x6 or 18x8 Airmaster Classic prop, maybe you are under prop'd??
Cheers for now,
Paul

Using the stock wheels set up. Didn't tack it but will do that tomorrow. Your 180 should do just fine as it is a beast. Dropping a cylinder when the glow is on is a problem.

RE: Show us your Beaver!
Yeah, I fly it with a canoe, what a blast. It looks so real in the air. It just requires a little more rudder. I fly the Beaver that way, and I have two Cubs, one 1/6 scale and the other 1/4 scale that I fly with a canoe. The 1/6 cub required some lead in the bow of the canoe to get the whole package to balance correctly. Lots of fun!!! Jeff.
