I'm looking for a forty size seaplane kit. I already have a Northstar and a Sig 1/6th scale Cub on Great Planes Floats. I haven't been able to find much available besides Sig's Sealane and I haven't heard any positive feedback about it. I don't have the tools for a scratch build and I don't like ARF's. Any recomendations would be appreciated.
Thanks, Oscar

Hi
Tricky one not sure your going to find one, i think you will have to get a normal kit (sadly not many left to choose from) and put it on floats.
The acro wot is very good on floats

So is the gangster 52

both in the uk, weather shipping them would make them unrealistic options not sure.

HI;If you just want a cheaper kit look at Tower Hobbies, the GeeBee Sea Hawk for 79.95 with floats, presently out of stock waiting as learned to fly on one and want another for a spare,a plain high wing trainer type but moved up from a 30 to a 40 in mine and flys pretty good. They say will notify me when back in stock must be problem with GeeBee as there floats are out of stock too.Nolthing spectacular but a decent little plane for the price. The best thing I have flown is a Hobby People AeroPhibian[sp]BUt like many of these it is now out o production apparently have been watching Ebay but was only around for a short time bueatiful flying and handling came with wheels and floats.Guess shows should buy them when available only bought the the one now very sorry there to were on sale for only $99.95.Good :Luck!

I got the impression you were looking for a flying boat. The Sig Sealane is the only Flying boat kit I know right now. You seem to think it is awful. I have seen a couple of them fly, and feel that it just needs spray rails on the hull for better water manners. It seems to fly pretty well, if you like a plane that flies on the wing. If you want to punch a hole in the sky, the Northstar is kitted by BalsaUSA. BalsaUSA also used to kit a Laddi Mikulasko design called the Laker, it may still be available.
Ace used to kit a Fred Reese design called the SeaDancer. Now they are Thunder tiger and they offer the Seamaster-but no longer in kit form as well as I can determine.
If you can get plans for one of these you can contact one of the kit cutter services......you might just call those guys anyway. Once they cut a kit they have the dxf saved in their computer.
If you're willing to try a floatplane, One Kit that flies well on floats is the good ol' Astro Hog.

My Wife bought me the Sig Sealane kit for my birthday last year and just managed to get it finished before our holidays at the lake last summer.
I powered it with the OS 52 FS driving a 10 x7 APC prop. The power is more than adequate and takeoffs are no problem. Just keep the wings level
with the aelerons and let it gain speed. The plane does spray a lot of water initially on the takeoff run so waterproofing with a silicone gasket around the wing
especially at the forward top of the wing. The plane will rise off the water almost on its own with just a wee bit of elevator. It is not a pattern ship by any means but will loops, rolls
Immelmans, cuban eights and most of the basic maneuvers quite well. Landings are uneventful, just let it slow down over the water and it will practically land itself. All in all,
except for a lot of spray initially on takeoff, I have no complaints. Maybe I will install some spray rails at the front of the bottom to cut down on the spraying.
