Float finishing
Working on my first float plane and am expecting a set of Ralph's Plane Fun floats today. I recall reading in a post previously some comments on sealing the wood prior to covering or painting. I think it was some sort of "poly" product such as polyurethane, but I'm not sure. If anyone could provide some feedback on method's they've used, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: Float finishing
I used a wood sanding sealer,a couple of coats, sanding in between, then a covering of 25 gm fiberglass with epoxy resin.under coat and paint.works fine.

RE: Float finishing
Decided to go with Minwax Polycrylic. I'm curious if anyone has had any problems applying paint over this type of water based finish? I've also decided to add a layer of light fiberglass (3/4 oz) on the bottoms for protection.

WBP is supposed to work, but don[t rush it. See a thread I recently started on this:

RE: Float finishing
Yeah, I haven't been rushing it (unintentional). Busy with other things in life, plus it took me a while to get my hands on some Lustrekote primer and white spray paint to match the monokote on the plane. Sprayed the primer last night and am planning to spray the top coat tonight.
