My dad got out of R/C a bunch of years ago, and gave me all his stuff. Included was a barely started seamaster. Now it's almost finished. One of these days...

The kit version flies very well! Mine has an Enya .45CX and has a lot of power. This plane also flies well off of the snow! Of course it "WAS" hanging in the garage until my hanging contraption broke. Damage was not too bad. But isn't that what winters are for! Just took awhile to get used to not reaching for the retact switch to put the gear down!

Hey downwind,
could you post a picture of the bottom of the fuse of that plane. I am trying to scratch build and I have the plans on AutoCAD and it looks like it is a flat bottom to the fuse, is that true? There is no "V" shaped float?

BTW, I could get someone plans of wanted to the sea master 40 if wanted.

caleb, If downwind is not able to get you a picture, I would be happy to get one for you and e-mail it to you. Yes the bottom of the fuse is flat, the ARF has a "V" shaped plastic piece running down the middle. The kit version is a little tricky as it wants to slide some on takeoff (atleast mine does). The landing gear and nose cone from the ARF will fit the kit as well (already had to do it). I don't know exactly how "Original" mine is but I imagine it is pretty close.

Anyone done a Seabird yet? I have one in the box and am looking for any input or mods that make it better. I understand it really needs spray rails.

heres the bottom. its flat . i dont use the runner on the bottom. I like doing brodies on the lake, slideslipping, ect. i put a very thin piece of aluminum on the bottom for protection when i beach the airplane.

i used a balsa block for the nose cone. i'll never fly it off land so i dont need the use of the nose wheel

i put fly wires on the tail for more strength. i fly my seamaster like its an extra300

i use an aluminum water rudder too.

I also attached a carring handle under the engine pod. Its just natural to pick up the seamaster by the engine pod. So this mod keeps from pulling the plastic pod off the wood post.

I put foam on the wing saddle to keep the water out.
It works pretty darn good. :)

i used a plastic spray bottle lid for a water tight cover for my gem 2000 light

Yea, I saw that the bottom was flat on the plans and wondered if the arfs were the same way.

If anyone wants a one to one (1:1) print I can do that for $10 or so at the local print shop. It would probably be 2 sheets 36"x48"

Personally, I like the flat bottom. It looks so cool when your heading back to shore and you side-skid it through a turn!

I just purchased an Ace Seamaster and I was wondering if you like yours. Sie the 4 cycle engine pull it okay. I was told at the hobby shop that a Saito 65 wouldnt have enough power to pull it.

i run a os 52 four stroke and it pulls it just fine. its not a speed demon but it flys great.
i use a graupner 12x7 prop. engine turns it at 10,100 on the ground. I also fly at 4000 ft. elevation.

I have moved the CG back some and now the Seamaster does the neatest lumshavocs. - bad spelling- It will flip end over end about 2 1/2 to 3 times.
The Seamaster does some pretty nice spins too. Although the plane can sometimes be a bear to get out of a spin. I have had a couple of close calls.
It flies pretty well upside down to.
This plane will do alot if set up correctly.
It is a great plane. All with an OS 52 four stroke.

My seamaster is almost ready. I'm running an O.S. 46 FX. Just have
to finish painting the engine pod. Any advise on set-up?

set up
 

start out with the control throws recomended in the instructions. then make adjustments to your liking after you have flown it. I started with the recommended CG then slowly moved it rearward to where i like it. I also increased the throws on the control surfaces.( high rate)I'm not sure how much i have. I just kept increasing it to where its real snappy. Then i use lower rates for landing, takeoff ,ect.

I seems that most models have a conservative CG. I guess to make sure novice pilots can fly them without too much trouble. I almost alway move the CG rearward after getting to know the model and its characteristics. But thats just me.
