Is Minwax fuel proof?

RE: ACE Seamaster

Yes it is, I've used it on my CMP spitfire and worked great. Only thing is it has a tendency to turn yellow if it's applied to thick. I used it to coat the wings to help dull the shine and to help seal the paint as it was prone to chipping off the solartex covering.

Hey Pit-Viper

Don't the plans call for installing wheels. I have a set on mine for off the grass. they plug into a brass tobe that goes across the fuselage.

You can do it that way but I plan to fly off water and it's just to difficult to seal the holes for the wheels properly when going from land to water. Seen a lot of guys try it and end up having to dump out the water after each flight. I can always build a dolly for it if I decide to fly on land, the glass on the bottom will do fine landing in grass. I'm sure you could figure out a way to completely waterproof the area as not to get water in the fuse.

I'll also join in with my Seamaster 40 that i bought during last summer. It's very well built and i yet have to add electronics and engine to make it flight ready. I do understand just by looking at water rudder that it could become a problem, now if anyone have come up with sort of built-in solution then i would like to see it and may modify my plane of same way too.
I also like to get some cool livery/scheme ideas as my SM is all white all over. It's glassed on the bottom of the hull though.

Here are few pictures of it from last summer.

I found a dusty and faded NIB Seamaster 40 ARF in a hobby shop today marked down to $155 but I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if this was a good deal. Can anyone tell me?

Otherwise, I'm considering a MaxfordUSA Neptune with the thought of electrifying it.

This would be my first seaplane.

Comments?

I only paid $50 for my 120 Seamaster, but that was from a guy thinning out his collection. The only thing missing was the pylon. After spending $100 for the right type of wood to replace it I almost had kittens. They had a real problem with yaw due to the tail twisting in flight, prob why it is still sitting on the shelf. Now that might only be on the 120 due to it's size and weight. I am getting ready for glass, covering and paint now. There were a bunch of mods done to mine including sheeting the wing. Also sheeted the tail section and added wires to alleviate some of the twist. I will get some pics of the way the area around the pylon was beefed up as well. It is a very cool plane, I like picking up older/discontinued planes though. If you don't buy it let me know where it was at, I would love to have both sizes of this model.

Here's a couple more, the first is the bulkhead around the pylon. The ply on the bottom is to help prevent the pylon from kicking out. Apparently quite a few people have hit and had the pylon break and the motor went to the bottom. That's part of the reason the piece of wood for the pylon was so expensive. Good advise to wire your motor to the fuse somehow to keep that from happening in the event of a crash into the water. The 2 holes towards the bottom are PVC used to brace the 2 bulkheads and to allow for wires to be routed through in the event I need to move the batteries/receiver to the front for CG reasons. It will also keep the planes level in the event it sinks by keeping water levels even for and aft of the tubes..;)

Second picture is a closer look at the tail and support. It was built for the tail to be removable for transport if needed. I don't think I'm going to leave it though. Still a little finishing work needed around the edges but that will get done when I start filling the wood.

I took a picture of the rudder, not sure if this is how they all are or not. Seems like it should work fine though. I wish there was a way to leave the pylon and motor off cause it looks so sleek without it sticking out the top of the wing.

Shane,

I went by the hobby shop again today and discovered that it wasn't a Sea Master after all. It was a Sea MONSTER. Since it wasn't what I thought it was, I didn't even enquire into it. Sorry to get you excited over nothing.

Hello,

I was wondering if you might know where I can find an instruction manual for a 120 Seamaster. I have completed the wing and fuselage and have the power pod to finish. lost the manual moving. Have you finished building yours and flown it. I have been reading other posts regarding a yaw problem?. Other posts I have read it flies great.
