RE: Half A flyers! Look what I found! A true and valuable treasure!

Man that's great, my Dad has the book and I've always regretted not buying one while it was available. The Wellesley is of particular interest, I scaled it up to .35 size years ago but never built...

RE: What age were you at first C/L flight.

I was 4-5 when Dad taught me to fly with an AJ Firebaby (the balsa one) sitting me on his shoulders and having my older brother launch.

RE: Does head contour make any difference?

"The model engines are run very rich, nowhere near stoich ratios"
How do you figure this?? Remember in glow fuel there's allot of oil. Oil is not fuel but must pass through the cylinder and is...

RE: Does head contour make any difference?

I couldn't say what the supposed benefits might be in heating the inlet air, It goes against the common understanding that the more air(oxygen) you can pack it the cylinder, the more power you can...

RE: Does head contour make any difference?

Jim,

In true diesels the combustion chamber shape is produced by a "re-entrant bowl" in the crown of the piston. In a true diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder at a predetermined time and...

RE: Rib-it!

Graham,

The "short eared" case was one with voids in the stack areas, chills that didn't fill them out. The rest of the case is sound so I'm going to build an ugly duckling with it.

The...

RE: End of Contra piston diesels and glo engines?

The mini 4 strokes by Honda, which is probably what both of those mentioned here are, have a very elaborate lube system to allow it to run in all attitudes. It does not have an oil pump per se, it...

RE: Latest Restoration

Hello Laurence,

I did not make the head, I cleaned of all the damaged areas and had it anodized. Cutting fins can be a pain, but with practice, especially at learning how to shape and sharpen a...

RE: Latest Restoration

Thanks George,

I believe the hex heads predate the slotted screws though I really don't know either. As I received pictures during my research it seems to me the earlier Mach I's used the hex...

Hi Lee,

A couple things. First "dacing", my error, facing cut, I have corrected the text. The cut was across the face of the head to remove the hammer marks.

Cheesehead screws are called...

Here's my latest resto project, a Webra 2.5 Mach I. As you can see from the before pic, this was a "nothing to lose" subject, so I am very pleased with the outcome.

RE: What was AYSC?

I think it was the Nats. I was never involved in the program though I'm of the right era. The AYSC paid all expenses for the kids that qualified. I really don't know any more about it that that.
