Wow, it's hard to believe this thread is still active.

I still have my Rare Bear, haven't flown it for several years and decided to pull it out and get it air worthy again. I'm currently replacing...

About the wing profile, I don't have any idea what NACA profile TT used for this model. When I rebuilt the landing gear mounts on my 1st generation TT Rare Bear, I traced the rib pattern using copier...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Tom,

I don'ty have any photos of the new paint scheme, like you, the only ones I've seen are the teaser pics at their website. I haven't actively looked at 4-bladed props, but I do reacll APC...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Tom,

I don't recall the Spring Air Model #, they are 85 degree with 3/16" wire legs, mains only. If my RB survives the rest of the flying season I'm planning on doing some upgrades, one of which...

Resurrecting an old thread...

Is anybody still flying one of these, particularly the original version with the weak stabs ?

The guys at my field had been asking me about my RB, we had a...

RE: Helium for your air systems

I use LN2 at work and it's something you don't want to use in retract systems. First is the temperature issue, the stuff is cold, about 77K or -196C. Another issue, it must be stored in a vented...

RE: Messersmichtt Bf-108 Taifun?

You should recheck your dimensions for the full scale BF-108. The wingspan you posted is the length, wingspan is 34' 5" per the information at
Wikipedia.

RE: Byron F16 CG?

Since the main gear shifts to the rear in the down position, and the fuel tank is forward of the CG. I would balance the plane with the gear down with empty fuel tanks.

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS

You need a piston stop, it's typically a made of aluminum and is threaded to fit the glowplug, look in the helicpter or car accessory section of your LHS. You install this in place of the glowplug...

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS

I have one that Gary Baker built and it flys well, however Gary built the plane around a Dynamax / O.S. .77. IIRC, the tailpipe is about 4" in diameter. The result is a icdf that flys well off grass...

RE: Bomber Field Picture Thread

Bomber Field had a great turn out this year but I don't believe it was the largest ever turnout. I was a member of Bomber Field from the the late '80s to mid '90s. I've been to the Gathering of B-17s...

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS

You're pretty much out of luck when it comes to parts support for the OS .77 DF engine. If the sleeve/piston is fried, there aren't any aftermarket replacements. I found a NOS sleeve/piston a number...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

No there isn't, the trailing / leading edges of the horiz stab / elevators is ~ 4mm thick. Same issues with the wings / ailerons, but maybe 5mm thick. When I assembled my Rare Bear, I opened up the...

RE: Flaps??

The primary reason there is a nose down pitching force is due to the net lift vector of the wing being behind the CG. This results in the nose down rotation. The horizontal stab's lift vector is a...

You're thinking of the ducted fan kit by Bob Parkinson. It looks like it still might be available.

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

I just did a search of RCU for the Thundertiger F8F Bearcat and the September Fury. I didn't find too much and nothing indicating there is a large demand for these two ARFs from Ace / Thundertiger.

Spin recovery in full scale aircraft isn't done the same way with all aircraft. Some will require the use of appropriate and abrupt elevator movement to break the stall to initiate the spin recovery....

Ad Clark III,

Thanks for providing your RB's airspeed with the O.S. 1.60. Ditto for confirming the whistling sounds. Looks like I need to acquire an O.S. 1.60 to replace the ASP 1.08 that's in...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

That hasn't been my experience with the RB. In fact I've found the RB to be very docile right up to the stall, then the nose sort of falls over. The plane doesn't do the ugly snap inverted auger in...
