RE: Servo for Water Rudder ?

I used a regular servo on my Duelist's float and it works well. I have it actuating a rudder on one float only, and it provides enough control to do the job. I just cut a servo sized hole in the...

RE: B25 Crash

Sorry to hear about your loss. It sure was a nice looking airplane.

Here's a picture of my Duelist I took a few years ago when all of the CA hinges on the left aileron failed. The only thing...

RE: identify this plane

I built one of those around 1978. Flew it twice then gave it to my roomate to settle up a $34 phone bill when I graduated college. Mine had an Enya engine too. I'll be darned if I can remember what...

RE: is a bi-flying wing possible

Here's a link to a photo of the Easy Riser biplane hang glider/ultralight that was popular in the late 70's. It was designed by Larry Mauro and the kits were sold through his company, UFM. I built...

RE: wings on the 12 foot telemaster?

M:

I would reconsider doing this - the wing attachment for your plane looked more than adequate. Adding additional structure will only add unecessary weight which will decrease the performance...

RE: SOME PEOPLE CAN'T EVEN CRASH CORRECTLY

This is from NTSB. No mention of the engine running after the crash.

On May 15, 2005, at 1548 eastern daylight time, a Danish-registered (OY-JET), Cessna Citation 525A, was substantially damaged...

RE: Water Rudder Problem

I think the problem is at the nose gear linkage. You need to adjust the control arm so that it is 90 degrees to the pushrod when the servo is neutral. That way you get the same amount of pushrod...

RE: Sign me up for The Stupid Club

Sign me up!

Test flew my new mini Funtana on a Monday - had a friend hand launch it for me, as it was a grass field. Flew great, but was a little touchy, so that evening I played with the radio...

RE: Me and my bro are arguing

If anyones interested, here's the link to the NTSB report on the 747 incident I mentioned before:

RE: Me and my bro are arguing

I don't remember all the details, but a 747 on the way to Hawaii many years ago rolled inverted and did a half loop. Lost 20,000 feet doing it. Can't remember what caused the initial event. The...

RE: Tip Stall--a misnomer?

The first time I heard the term "tip stall" was when I was in to flying Hang Gliders many years ago. With Hang Gliders (and as someone previously mentioned, Sailplanes too) tip stalls are a very...

Twin-Air Photos

A friend of mine just completed his Twin-Air and sent me these pictures. Thought I'd post them for those who may be interested. Looks like a pretty nice plane - can't wait to see it fly. I'll send...

RE: Single engine minimum control speed

My Duelist will not even taxi with just one engine going - it just spins around. There's not enough weight on the nose gear to provide the turning ability to handle the asymmetric thrust. Happens...

RE: Pica Duellist Canopy

Thanks for the responses, guys. Tim, I would like to see a pic of the Mustang canopy if you get a chance. Also, what size is it?

Scott. I lke the winglets! I may put something like that on my...

RE: Patriot Bites the Dust

Walt:

I was fortunate that the Patriot lasted as long as it did. I've had many close calls with it (for other reasons, usually pilot error). After talking with other guys at the field and...

Pica Duelist Canopy

Bill:

Do you know if there are any replacement canopies that will fit my Duelist (PICA kit version)? Mine fell off last weekend. Pretty cool when it came off (during a high speed pass) - it...

RE: Patriot Bites the Dust

I fly this plane at full throttle all the time so did not notice any throttle "hits".

Our field is located on an old garbage dump, and is the highest land mass in the area. We've got trees,...

RE: Patriot Bites the Dust

Very interesting. I was flying on channel 40, if that makes a difference. The quarry opens at the end pointing away from our field. The edge of the quarry is about 75 yards inside of their fence...

RE: Patriot Bites the Dust

Your're probably right Randall, I hadn't thought of that. It looked like the plane went in nose first, but I did lose sight of it at the last second so it probably pulled out of the dive a little...

Patriot Bites the Dust

On it's 35th flight my Patriot crashed while turning on to final approach. I think I got hit with radio interference as the plane suddenly started jerking all over the place and my inputs had no...

RE: Patriot

Flew the plane a couple more times last weekend. Used an APC 10-8 prop which seems to work the best so far. Really starting to have fun with the plane. Tried a stall at altitude. The left wing...

RE: Patriot

Flew the plane last weekend with the APC 9-8 prop but didn't tach it or mess with the engine much to see what it could do. I was out of town and had taken the plane along to fly for my relatives, so...

RE: Patriot

I'm a slow builder - I try to have one new plane done each year. I started this one in March of 2003 and finished it in March of 2004!! Couldn't even guess at the real number of hours as I worked...

RE: Patriot

I would not consider the Patriot kit an easy build. It has a fair amount of carving, and the turtle deck is bent sheet stock, the aft portion of which is real tricky. The control system is different...

RE: Patriot

Gary:

I hear ya. What would you recommend? I've got an APC 10-8 and an 11-7 handy. I read on this site a while back about a guy who cut down an APC 11-12 to 9.75 diameter, so I was planning on...
