RE: JHH A7.....all up weight?

Just FYI, the Frank Buelna kit (not ARF) A-7 built years ago with GWM turbine flew very fast but also had functioning leading edge flaps, which dramatically improved slow flight characteristics at...

RE: A Very Sad Day

The Wolfe family is deeply saddened by the news of George Leu's passing. He was a JHH "regular" on his many trips to the West Coast over the years when he was with Acme. We shared many modeling and...

RE: JHH F86

Skywalker,

Sorry that UPS dorked your airplane. Fortunately, those f/g cracks are easy to fix with thin CA and some 2 oz. cloth behind them. That will be much easier than trying to collect...

RE: JHH F86

Skywalker,

The airplane requires low profile mains and a belly mount nose gear. We can provide a set of JHH HD gear if you need a source; please contact us directly.

RE: Hawk D/F modified turbine?

So where are the Turbax fans coming from? Are they "splashing" them also? They aren't coming from us! MiragePilot and CLovell are correct that these are copies--backdoor rejects. Ain't it a...

RE: RED ARROWS HAWK[TURBINE VERSION] ARTF

David,

We've already flown this Hawk on the MW-54; it's a great combo! We use specially designed augmenter thrust tubes and a laser wood kit for installation. Requires no additional weight...

RE: Wren 44 help

John, Joe, etc.

We will be leaving here on Wed. for the trip to PHX. Please do NOT send the engines here since there won't be time to do anything with them; we'll evaluate the problem over...

RE: What's up with the JHH website?

Since we don't visit our own website daily, we weren't aware of the problem with it until we heard about it through the "rumor mill". Apparently the server is experiencing "technical problems with...

RE: Ducted fan Question --- Starters

B1Driver,

You need to start the engine on the backside of compression. Sounds like you're trying to start it with the piston at top dead center. No good. Rotate the fan/spinner around so it's...

RE: best duct fan jet kit?

It seems that a math lesson is in order here. Here are the dimensional facts for the full-size Phantom:

F-4C/D Length: 58' 3" Wingspan: 38' 5"

F-4E ...

RE: jet hangar hawk

Gentlemen,

I flew my Hawk on a Turbax/OS .46VX system for 2-1/2 years prior to installing a Wren MW-54 engine in it. I made no structural changes, put 60 oz. of fuel in it, and have gone on to...

RE: OS 46VX-DF Fuel Consumption?

Gentlemen,

I've flown the Hawk with DF power--OS .46VX/Turbax--for 2-1/2 years on 22 oz. of fuel and I've never run out of fuel! Most flights averaged 10-11 minutes. If you are running out of...

MW54 plans wanted

I would like to clarify something that seems to have been confused in this thread:

The MW-54 "plans" are for the Mk.1 engine, which is the homebuilt version. The consumer purchases a few...

Fiberglass fuse preparation

seafury,

You can mix resin and cabasil to fill larger areas or voids where the cloth might have lifted. Apply with a putty knife, allow it to get to B stage (trimmable with razor blade), then...

WREN MW-54 Turbine - WOW!

Tom,

Yes, an ECU comes with the MW-54. The ECU is different for the manual vs. the auto-start version. However, if your question has to do with the "version" of the ECU on the manual start, it...

WREN MW-54 Turbine - WOW!

Here is a technical explanation regarding hot spots and thermocouple probe positioning.

At low rpm, when vaporisation and mixing conditions are poor within the engine, fuel droplets fall under the...

EGT probe placement.. critical on start but not while running?

My MW-54 EGT probe is exactly half way between the inner and outer cones and my engine runs between 450-500 degrees C. consistently. Its placement is somewhat critical with respect to the inner and...

JHH Hawk

Matt,

No structural modification is required to the airframe for turbine installation. However, the consumer should not use greater than a 12 lb. thrust turbine in the Hawk. Truth is, it's only...

JPM F4 Phantom

Gary,

Yes, 30 and 60 degrees are what we recommend on our Phantom. You get good roll component lock-up for approaches with 60 degrees. On the full-size they used 30 degrees for takeoff; 60...

WREN MW-54 Turbine - WOW!

Tres (sorry I misspelled your name before),

We aren't using a UAT. It is not necessary as long as you use a filtered clunk, which you only need in the tank that feeds the fuel pump. If you use...

WREN MW-54 Turbine - WOW!

Trace,

I had about 1/2" of liquid left in the bottom of the last tank. I estimate that to be about 6 oz. Fifty oz. should be plenty for 7+ minutes at less than full throttle. Once you start...

WREN MW-54 Turbine - WOW!

AJ,

From my experience, I would guess less than 200' takeoff distance from grass, if it is as you describe. From asphalt, it was less than 100'.

Good luck on...
