RE: Sterner - DH 100 VAMPIRE buildingThread

Thanks, Per - that's very helpful. Your experience in the fullsize is also interesting to here - what a privilege; I'm envious. Were you the pilot or passenger ?

Keith
PS I'm modifying the...

RE: Sterner - DH 100 VAMPIRE buildingThread

Thankyou, Pete, for your response. It will be interesting to hear from others how this model behaves close to the stall. My own disposition is to include a degree or two of washout and I'm glad that...

RE: Sterner - DH 100 VAMPIRE buildingThread

Dear Per Strommen,
I am just starting the Belair kit and am somewhat concerned to see that there is no washout on this highly-tapered wing .

The aircraft appears to fly very nicely judging...

RE: What might have been.

Hello Dave,

Very interested to see your twin EDF version of the TSR2. Looks very smart and I wish you all the best with test flights.

I will be very interested to hear how you get on and...

RE: Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

Steve - I've reamed the holes out of my speed brakes, which are fixed. I've also cut out the fuz' panel behind the brakes. This saves a bit of tail-end weight, and, allows more cool air draw into the...

RE: Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

Mike - that really is smart!

And working air-brakes too. I didn't bother as I was worried about AUW and more mechanics at the tail end would need compensating noseweight. What weight has yours...

RE: Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

Rich (and Dave) - hope your Goshawk flies as well as it looks!

As to the Falcon fit, I have to say I haven't bothered to precisely centre it; just gone with the fixings as they are. Have to say...

RE: Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

Mike - thankyou for your kind comments:-

CG is at ~120-125mm.

The inner gear doors are presently not attached. The doors on the legs tend to dig-in at the pointed lower front - exacerbated...

RE: Jetlegend T-45 Hawk

Just had two flights with my new T45 (21lb, JC Falcon power). Very, very fast - too much power really for normal flying but the Falcon has plenty of poke to get it off a soggy grass strip, midwinter...

Aye, you're right. Mind you, I don't know which was brighter, the sun or DJ's ski-suit!

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Rob - that is a cracking photo' (taken by Reg Lowe, Rolls Royce Hucknall Club member). Doing six test flights on a bitterly cold midwinter's day took some doing. The model had been in the trailer all...

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Thanks, Dave and nice to hear from somebody on the other side of the world who knows my locality.

To add to your memories of 66 Sq. at Acklington I well remember a family picnic at Druridge Bay...

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Thankyou i3dm and Rob.
Yes, I suspect the total run time is 9-10min.

Nice pic's - particularly the one of 'Ole Man Johnson with his geriatric model stand and reading glasses!!

That smoke...

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Thanks, Colin. As to the manuals, it's appreciated but don't bust a gut - after more than 6 years on the project you'll probably understand I'm 'researched' out!

Cheers,
Keith

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Indeed. This is why it is quite pointless comparing fuel burns of jet engines when the airframes are different. Mine is nearly twice that of Dave Johnson's big Vulcan because he is, on average, using...

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

Thanks, Rob.

You may be interested to know that a 6-6.5 min. flight is consuming 4L per engine so increasing each tank from 5L to 7L was very wise.

Prio to recent test-flights on the Hunter I had to try and sort-out a fuel siphoning problem from the tank overflows. Lying underneath the model one arm and over...

RE: 1/3rd Scale Hawker Hunter.

The Pilot's View
On the first flight, the aircraft accelerated briskly and had lots of energy before rotating gradually with progressive 'up'. It then went up at ~40 deg's as if on reheat. It...
