Reversing the gyro won't fix anything, I have the same problem with 2 trex 450's, both spin out of control, I can lift off with the body spinning about 120rpm, speed up the spin to about 180rpm or...

My Align motor and 30A speed control both caught fire and burnt up the whole thing, melted the drive gears, rear rotor drive gear, all wireing to the gyro & servos, I replaced the whole head...

You realy can't enjoy the sport untill it's around 20 degrees or colder, and you get slaped on the finger with a prop, no feeling after that for the rest of the day, don't worry about cold, engines...

By the way, the flaps are 6" square from 1/8 plywood, hinged center line, they realy work well,
just have to be different I guess..totally sheeted the wing with 1/16" balsa sheets also.

I streeched my Slow Poke 30" added about 6 oz of lead under the OS .46 XT, added flaps and vintage wheels, flies great, gets lots of attention.
