t-maxx motor upgrade

Ok here goes. I have an older T-Maxx I put now 2 3.3 in it and they have both failed. I did break them in. What should I put in it. I have done some surfing on the net and am looking at a Piccco....

Reverse

That is what I thought. I could not figure out why the LHS told me this. They seem to know more about car and trucks than about boats.

Where should I put a failsafe? Someone told me on the rudder but I thought it would be better on the carb so it doesn't run away.

Is there one out that is any good? I just bought a RD Logics and cannot find anything good on it. I do like the rear exhaust and will spend the money if there is one that is worth it without any...

the battery that is comes with is a 6-cell 1000mAh Ni-MH battery pack.
