wow! It comes to mind that it was a minor grass strike prior to all this. I thought I had inspected the tail pulley well but now have doubts. It did seem to spin freely but I guess it would not take...

Nope.... might be contributing but every thing spins freely as always... belt tension was checked and rechecked... darn........

wow! All great ideas, thanks. I have eliminated the pinion, one-way bearing, and belt possibilities with no improvments. The head setup has also been checked by 2 other knowledgeable folks.

I had the same slippage on my T-rex. The resulting spinning-in landing wrecked the blades and head parts.
I used some locktite-blue formulae to prevent another incident.
