Sbach 342 120 with Futaba S3010s?

Hi. I just bought an Sbach 120 from tower and just getting started on the build. Will the Futaba S3010 be enough servo for this plane's control surfaces? The torque is 72 oz-in @ 4.8 volts. If not,...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I've seen folks start the plane by priming via plugging the exhaust port as well. However, the engine was already running in my case, and out-of-time since it was running backwards. It just sounds...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Blue Balls Day. Gotta love it! They should have a similar event here. Hold the event in August on a 110 deg day and see who can fly the pattern and land without passing out from heat stroke :).

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Just curious - how did you work with the epoxy in the cold shop :) ? I would really like to see some pictures if you build the plane to fly off the snow. Don't get much of that around here (almost...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

That is an awsome looking plane.

Here's another one I REALLY want to get: http://www.nitroplanes.com/give214071en.html

That looks like a good price on the Cessna 421 twin at the top of the page too!

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Do you have a .75 or .90 2 stroke or a comparable 4 stroke? If so, you might want to look at the Phoenix extra 330S. That is also a blast to fly and a little easier to see at a distance because it...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I'm sure you're right about the 55 AX, but I have never had a 4 stroke and really like the sound as well as the look of the engine. With my budget, I should probably go with the Magnum insead of the...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Assembly was pretty easy. I had some problem early on with the cowling, but following moparcolt's advice (earlier in this thread) of tapping the mounting screws into the firewall, those problems...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I had to put some lead in the nose of my Yak anyway, so the extra weight might as well be a heavier engine! I just looked on Tower; the price of the Magnum 70 is $180. If I got the engine AND a...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Chris-
Regarding the domino... whatever. I ran one solid pushrod from the servo, through the block, and to the elevator. The other side of the elevator is hooked to the block. That way you are...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I like the look of the giles as well. I think I might have to try one. I have also been looking at the Magnum 70; seems like a better value than a comparable OS!

Million-aire
Which do you like better? The Sukhoi or Giles? What kind of engines to you have on them?

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I flew mine again today and very nearly lost it as well. I switched to high rates for the first time today (everything 100%) and was hot dogging way more that I should have been and went into a...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

The aluminum spinner was a great move. I've already had to replace my nylon spinner because I over-tightened it and it flew off while running.

Let me know how it performs with the .72!

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I am using the stock mount right now since I have a .46 on it. When I switch out to a .70 four stroke? I will most likely put a stronger one on.

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Ok, my first thought is 'Why didn't I think of that!?!' That's exactly what I need to do. Thanks!

The takeoffs are really easy. I didn't set any exponentials or D/R settings on the rudder. ...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I did the maiden on mine today. It flies great! A gusty crosswind helped me scratch the covering on one wing tip and break a prop though. The ailerons and elevator look pretty tame, but it is...

It actually has a huge fuel tank (for a .40 size model). 16 oz!

RE: phoenix models yak 54

The engine mounts with the head pointed at about 220 deg. This plane has been really easy to build so far. The ONLY thing I can see that you might consider changing is the engine mount. It is one...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

I believe it. It is easy-building so far. Even though I don't have the money right now, I think I'm going to get a four stroke for this plane. Maybe not a .91, but at least a .52.

It is...

RE: phoenix models yak 54

Oh, you can't tell in the pics because I haven't cut the covering away yet, but two bolts attach the canopy to the fuse in the back and the front of the canopy has two pegs that fit into slots.
