RE: " Ground Effect "

Tailstrikes would also be a problem with airliners trying to do AD.

RE: preflight

For computer radio users:

- check if you selected the right model BEFORE turning the TX on. Just in case you switch from gas to electro as the engine might start running as soon as the TX is...

RE: " Ground Effect "

The vortex is actually generated close to the wingtip. This pulls the boundary layer that is on top of the wing towards the tip. As a result you get a thicker boundary layer near the tip which...

RE: " Ground Effect "

So basically you have proven my point. Aerodynamic braking does not work, i.e. it does not give the shortest landing distance possible.

RE: What does washout means?

Well, couldn't really see the humor... spitfire - washout - pilot not flying the plane correctly...

it just was full moon I think, ah well maybe it's because the days are getting shorter:)

RE: " Ground Effect "

Yep, it looks very nice. Did it too with small aircraft, sadly not with a fighter jet.:-)

RE: " Ground Effect "

I don't know any of the procedures of the Draken but my point was that if you keep the nose of the ground the landing distance will not be shorter. On top of that, with certain aircraft designs,...

RE: What does washout means?

Negative, it is a way to improve low speed performance, thus allowing for shorter landing distances.

RE: " Ground Effect "

Aerodynamic braking means holding the nose off with the main gear on the ground. Just landing with high pitch attitudes is not the same. Aerodynamic braking does not work.

You are correct in...

RE: Help ID a Roebers Modellbau 4 meter ASW 28?

Hello,

If I'm correct Roebers (german company btw) no longer makes any models, but I'm not sure though. I'll ask around at my club this week-end, there are a few that have a glider made by him....

RE: What does washout means?

Hi,

- induced drag is not responsible for the lift. Induced drag is CAUSED BY having lift. More lift means more induced drag. Induced drag can be reduced by weakening the vortices.

- do you...

RE: Thermofluegel ASW 28

Have a small update:

I started building the tailplane today. Drilled the hole to attach the stabilator, glued and sanded the wingtips to it. Next I will install the elevator and rudder servo.

RE: Tip Stall

Those toblerones are basically stall strips.
As for the buffeting, it is indeed present on a lot of full scale aircraft. It is caused by separated air (due to the impending stall) which is...

RE: Tip Stalling Airplane

Do you mean adding winglets ?

If so I would not do it. They don't solve the problem of tip stalling. In fact they do exactly the opposite, they make things worse.

Winglets reduce the...

RE: What does washout means?

I agree, more lift means more drag and YES I did see this at school.

The plane doesn't continue to climb but this is not due to the extra drag only, there's another factor which is more...

RE: What does washout means?

The reason why your plane balloons when you deploy flaps is because you don't reduce the body attitude (pitch angle, NOT the same as AOA)

L = 1/2 x Rho x V² x S x Cl

If you lower...

RE: What does washout means?

What you say it not correct. Wash-out does have a big effect on tip stall! Adding washout to the wingtips will give them a smaller 'angle of incidence'. If you then slow the aircraft down and keep...

RE: Tip Stall

The effect of CG on stall characteristics is not that big. The main effect it has is: aft cg REDUCES stall speed.

I think that in the case of aerobatic aircraft a bigger reason for (tip)...

RE: Tip Stall

Just for information, a 'dutch roll' is something totally different and has nothing to do with stalling. It is a stability problem.

RE: Looking for Instrument Panel Pics

You could also try www.airliners.net , with a bit of luck you can find detailed cockit pictures.
