RE: DPS disappointment

I'm not back pedaling for you Frank. Balsa is nice to work with, if you've ever done wood-working, and it does fly very nicely. I think you're some sort of weird hobby snob. (My, that sounds...

RE: DPS disappointment

I didn't realize the SPAD crowd took personal credit for designs that did not come off this site. Nor did I realize they did not have a sense of humor. My intention was not to offend people. I built...

RE: DPS disappointment

I'm unaware, and disinterested in any ongoing feuds between balsa and plastic guys. Build it, fly it, have fun. What else is there? We're not winning medals here.

RE: DPS disappointment

My bad. I re-read my post and I should not have said it is a terrible design. It worked out terribly for me with the materials I could secure.

RE: DPS disappointment

For those of you with intelligent advice - thank you. For the rest, what a bunch of impertinent wankers! You guys are hilarious. I hope you feel good for your oh-so-witty comments. Don't you guys...

DPS disappointment

Well, I thought I'd give it a shot, so I built the DPS. I can think of a better anagram for DPS: how about Das Piece of S--t? I ran into a few problems, such as only having 4mm coroplast available,...

RE: Polyurethane glue - how come it says not suitable for polyolyfins?

Good question. I bought "Amazing Goop" for "all plastics" and it seems to hold very well, although it says right on the package "Not for use with polypropelene". Mind you, I don't know what that is.

RE: Benefit of two aeileron servos - could i make this mod to DPS?

Thanks. It makes sense now. I'll follow suit. The last question I have is regarding the Y connector.

Am I nuts, or does the Y connector not split to the two aelerons, allowing for a single...

RE: Wing question

I noticed many SPADS use the Dominitor wing. That is the plan I have reverted to. I measured it out and pre-folded it last night. I'll knock it off this evening. I'm going to go with two aeleron...

RE: Benefit of two aeileron servos - could i make this mod to DPS?

I am planning on doing the same thing. This might be a stupid question, but how do you mount your servos and Y connector? Do you set it all up before final glueing? Clearly, I've never set up two...

RE: Wing question

Good idea. I'll try it. I've also stolen the plans for the SNS and other planes that use a single piece of coro and glue the aelerons between the top and bottom. I think that will work fine.

Wing question

I'm building a DPS and I'm nearly finished. The only problem is I only have 4mm coroplast, so when I try to fold the wing over and glue it, it really distorts the shape.

Is there a way I can...

RE: PT40 wing advice

Have someone who knows what their doing help you cover the wing. That way you'll get the washout right. Mine is screwed, yet the plane stills flies well. The PT-40 will fly regardless of what you...

RE: PT40 wing advice

The sport wing will probably be fine for you. I live in a very windy city, so I took my dihedral down to 3" combined. It works very well and it is still stable. The more the dihedral, the more the...

RE: How to secure fuel tank?

Great advice guys. Thanks.

I HOPE the firewall keeps the tank from sliding forward. If it doesn't, I've got bigger problems! Speaking of which, those 4 screws keep the firewall from falling out...

How to secure fuel tank?

How do you secure the fuel tank in a DPS? It says to secure it to the firewall.

I was thinking of a twist tie around the tank, accessible from underneath.

Supply goldmine & Coro Question - Help!

If any of you are thinking of a SPAD, but not sure where to get the materials, here is good news. Rona sells Coro in 2x4 and 4x8 sheets in multiple colours. The only problem is the don't sell 2mm...

Here are a couple pics of the PT40, hanging in my garage. Note the tail wheel.

RE: PT40 wing advice

Just wondering how everyone did with their PT40s? I have been flying mine for the better part of a year. I flew it off skis for the winter and converted it to a tail dragger in January. I've had lots...

RE: best "2nd plane" SPAD?

Thanks guys. Next questions:

How much coroplast do I need to buy?

How do you "cover" coro?

What are the dimensions of the gutter pipe (width - Home Depot only had that big, grooved...

best "2nd plane" SPAD?

I know the "2nd Plane" threads go on forever in the world of Balsa. However, I'm looking for a second plane to really test myself with before flying my balsa low wing sport plane. I fly a balsa...

RE: RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

If we're going to throw history out there, perhaps we should look at August 24th, when the German pilots accidentally bombed London. That, in turn, pissed off the Brits, who then started bombing...

RE: Begginers Warbird

I found a discontinued Midwest Zero kit. I am building it now. I fly my trainer pretty confidently, but I'll probably resort to the buddy box on the zero for a while. I can't tell you how it flies,...

RE: which airplane was definitive in winning WW2 over Europe?

I'd have to go with the bombers. Hitler's decision not to develop long range bombers was the downfall of the attack on Britian. The low speeds and small payloads of the German bombers were no match...
