Tuning a buggy (losi XXX) for on-road use

Hi, this is somewhat of a repost from the off-road forum, but I'd like to ask what the best way to tune a losi xxx for on-road use would be. From what I've gathered, lower the ride height, and...

RE: Help picking off-road car for on-road use (robotics)

The weight will be close to stock (very small and light electronics). I would have figured the XXX would have tighter steering and be a little more agile, but I don't have experience with both....

Help picking off-road car for on-road use (robotics)

I need a 1/10 vehicle for a robotics competition. The vehicle has to drive around a parking lot as fast as possible (by itself). There are some small pot holes and rough spots in the parking lot, so...

RE: Crystal Interchange

These questions always come up, and you will always get the full gamut of answers from, "you're crazy to even think it" to "yeah, I do it all the time". A lot if this is due to the fact that you have...

RE: the official traxxas villain thread

I don't think so. I have a couple of spare titan motors, and a 14.4V ESC. I can probably pick up a Villain 7.2 for around $120, shipped, and a IV for around $100. I doubt I'll get an EX for anywhere...

Anyone run 14.4V on a Traxxas 7.2V ESC?

Has anyone tried it? I've made ESC's from scratch, and the only things I'd be worried about are over driving the FETs or overdriving the BEC. The BEC problem could be solved by using an external BEC....

RE: the official traxxas villain thread

So, I'm thinking of getting a Villain. I have a lot of radios, batteries, and motors (550 sized) from other projects, so I don't want to buy new. I'm looking at the Villain (non EX) or the IV, just...

RE: Any Futaba 3PJ or 3PK owners please help! (5:5 mode question)

OK never mind. I figured it out myself. I had to adjust the pot on the trigger and now everything is good. Just for future reference, though, on the 3PJ super there is a screw head on the end of the...

Any Futaba 3PJ or 3PK owners please help! (5:5 mode question)

Hi, I purchased a used 3PJ and I think it's not working right, but I need to verify it with someone who has a working TX. If you have a few minutes, would you do the following small test for me?

...

RE: throttle neutral position on Futaba radios

I've read through the manual MANY times (especially the parts you mention). I understand how it's supposed to work, and I think my TX is defective. Thanks anyway.
If someone can test the 5:5...

RE: throttle neutral position on Futaba radios

Thanks. I've gone through the manual many times and it doesn't have the answer. I'll explain a little better what's going on. The throttle trigger comes set at a position of about 70:30%, so that the...

throttle neutral position on Futaba radios

I just got a used Futaba 3PJ, and the trigger neutral point is at about the 7:3 point. Is this standard on all Futaba radios? Is there a way to modify the TX so that the trigger sits right in the...

Trouble with Traxxas ESC and Futaba 3PJ

This may turn into a long post, but please hear me out. I just got a new E-Maxx as well as a used Futaba 3PJ. I'm trying to set up the ESC, but there isn't enough throw on the brake side to set the...

RE: Headlock gyro sugestions

I'm a cheap-skate, and was about to get the esky gyro. But after looking around a lot, the overwhelming opinion is that you should not scrimp on the gyro. It's supposed to make a huge difference. You...

RE: Belt cp swashplate leveler

I just ordered one of those from RChover for my T-rex clone. If the belt cp has the same shaft size (which it should) then it should work OK.

INSURGENT! The new game in my house.

So the other day the kids were playing with their nerf dart guns, and I wanted to fly my lama. What a great combination. I fly the heli around the living room, and the kids try to shoot it down. They...

RE: High Altitude & Electrics

I can see your dilemma. Changing gearing would be difficult, but not impossible, I think. You may need a pinion puller, though. (I know xheli sells one) I may try this on my llama. Anyway, good luck.

RE: High Altitude & Electrics

The key here is to think about efficiency. How much work are you throwing away to heat, and how much goes into lifting the heli? There isn't anything inherently inefficient about being at altitude....

All you Belt CP owners--does it come with a Pitch Gauge?

Does the the Belt CP come with a pitch gauge, or do I need to buy one along with the heli? Also, does it come with the USB cable for training? Thanks.

Any cheap 550 size brushless replacements?

Hi, picked up an old Wattage Thermalaire glider (1.8 meter, I think) with a direct drive 550 sized motor. The motor is shot and the ESC may be as well. I'm interested in getting it flying, but I...

RE: High Altitude & Electrics

I'm glad to see this topic coming up. I live at 7500', and I'm pretty sure that the way to get a heli to fly better at altitude is by gearing it higher, to get a high head speed at lower motor RPM. ...

RE: Lama V4 and Futaba 9C Help?

Well you can get it working right now if you do the following. Take the RF module out of the 9C and replace its xtal with the xtal from your esky TX. (There is a small black metal plate covering the...
