RE: DA-50R vs DA-100L Vibration

Wow that is quite a bit more! I am not doubting you, I was just wondering how you know the 40% number. HAve you seen it measured somehow? That number would be very useful to me if true.

DA-50R vs DA-100L Vibration

Hello,
I have what some may consider an odd question: For anyone who has experience running a DA-50 and a DA-100, running at about the same rpm, can you notice a significant difference in...

How do you trim the excess from the mold flange?

Mike,

If you are vacuum bagging the part, how do you trim during the green stage? Do you remove the bagging, trim, and then re-bag?

I use it with epoxy resin, but I beleive it works with polyester as well www.zyvax.com. Here is a quote from the website:

Has anybody used Release All Safelease-#20L

If you are trying to get away from the "dreaded PVA" why don't you switch to a water-based release? Frekote is solvent-based I believe, which makes it hazardous. I have not tried the Safelease...

beginer Question -covering foam

I like to use Decomp resins (www.decomp.com). Many also use West Systems brand.

Have you considered going to a mold-based method? There are many advantages.

beginer Question -covering foam

What type of foam are you using? I usually use the Extruded Polystyrene (blue or pink) and it doesnt act like an epoxy "wick." Also, are you planning on using the lost foam method or are you...

Fiberglass fuselage cores

I worry about using foam for that purpose because it has very poor compressive strength, so the skins are likely to buckle unless heavier glass is used.

Fiberglass fuselage cores

I have read several threads on this site about the best way to lay up a fuselage in a mold. It seems that the most common way is to lay up glass layers until one gets to a rule-of-thumb of about...

Honeycomb bevel

Anyone have any better ways of beveling honeycomb (to close out the sandwich skins smoothly) than plain old sanding?

Boy this release works...Too well!

Thanks for the advice ptxman. I'll definitely look into that Dolphin wax. BTW, the planes I build are electric so I guess I don't have to worry about the fuel issue. :)

Can I use epoxy to repair fiberglass fuse

Mike,

You have been a lot of help to people on this site. I notice your post says " no longer visiting RCU"

Should we be worried? :(

I just tried painting in the mold again. I kept everything the same as before except I did not use a latex paint. I tried Krylon Fusion which I think is an enamel? Well it worked great...

Best weight Glass for TF Cessna 182 Wing

If you are going with sheeted balsa for the structure, you can cover with 0.5 oz glass or even FG tissue to get a nice surface finish. If you want more strength, you can go as high as about 2 oz and...

Best weight Glass for TF Cessna 182 Wing

Hello from Stillwater,

Are you going with a mold-based construction, or foam cores? Also, what are some of the specs on the plane such as the size and weight.

Boy this release works...Too well!

All,

Regarding the PVA, I know that it is now considered hazardous, and shipping requires special handling (and costs more). I don't know why, I always thought it was relatively safe myself.

Boy this release works...Too well!

I recently switched release methods for my molds. I used to use the standard wax, wax, wax, buff, PVA. I don't like the waxing and buffing steps, and I don't like the toxic nature of the PVA so I...

Too much vacuum crushes white foam - need regulator or other technique

If your pump is a type that can run continuously (such as the diaphragm types), you won't need a reservior or a regulator. Just the simple bleed will do nicely, and it is the lowest cost option.

Too much vacuum crushes white foam - need regulator or other technique

I can sympathize. One of the first white foam parts I made, I not only used too much vacuum, I used too much temp in the oven. Imagine what cottage cheese would look like if you covered it in...
