First Tail Dragger Flight

All,

I'm going to convert my LT-40 to a tail dragger, I've been flying for about 2 years and am finishing up a 4*60, so I thought it would be a good step to convert the trainer over. Besides,...

Converting LT-40 to a tail dragger

Greetings,

I'd like to convert my trusty LT-40 to a tail dragger.

A couple of questions:

1) Can you recommend a main landing gear/tail wheel set (or seperate pieces).
2) Where...

Set of 4 Micro RC cars at Best Buy

I saw a set of 4 Micro RC cars at Best Buy, all were on different channels, however, they only had two different models.

I'd like a set of 4 so my kids and I can race around the kitchen.

RE: learning without an instructor

Strangely, all you get from a website is advice.

No one on the website can physically stop someone from trying to learn on their own.

In my 2 years of flying, almost none of the other...

RE: Baby Pictures

They always look so pretty before you bounce them down the runway, get them covered in grass and glow fuel, etc.

Have fun

RE: LT 40 doesn't want to land

Everyone complains that the LT-40 "Wants to float", this is true, but I've flown my LT-40 for 18 months and I've found it has a very predictable glide path. As long as its predictable, you should be...

RE: SIG Kadet LT-40 Build

I've got the LT-40 arf with an OS FX 46 and a JR662.

I have no complaints about any of it, the FX 46 I consider my best investment ever, since it has been very easy to start, never quits, and is...

RE: I am SOLO but landing is still bumpy

50 times.

My favorite instructor said you had to land 50 times to get it burned in to your muscle memory (like golf).

Many pilots, even newbies, regard landing as a necessary evil to be...

RE: Sig Kadet LT-40

Before the debates on "cheapest" kick off, I think the really cheapest way has little to do with the type of plane you buy.

The cheapest way to learn to fly is with an instructor. With an...

RE: When I take to the skies

Checklist,

Everyone thinks this is stupid, but I think its a great idea for a newbie.

Sit down and write out a 2 part checklist. Part 1 is "take to the field", heck, just last week I...

12 volt "Gel" battery

All,

I am looking for a good 12v battery to fit in my SIG flight box. The walmart lawnmower btty I have is too big to fit in the compartment.

Someone at the field mentioned a 12v gel...

RE: Glow plugs?

I'm no expert, but experimentation may be in order, rather than just getting the most or least expensive.

I switched my OS FX .46 from a Fox glow plug to an OS #8 and it made all the difference...

RE: Gluing question

Ask many questions, and don't think any are too stupid.

When I assembled my first ARF, I tried to glue the hinge tapes with thick CA, mostly because I didn't realize there were different types...

RE: Clubbed to death

Sherpa,

I'm not sure if its clear in this thread, but most clubs have designated "instructor pilots".

Since operating a plane is much more likely to bring about destruction than a car,...

RE: Clubs - Making it easy

I've been in three clubs, one lost its field, then I moved. I really wasn't trying to complain, but to put forth to any club leaders out there that they may not be making their club as accessible as...

Clubs - Making it easy

I've been flying solo for over a year, I recently moved to a new area. I promptly joined the local flying club, but...

They required pilot "qualification", according to the web site, it wasn't...

LT-40

It's not more than a few degrees. I already bent the main gear in, any more and I'd be afraid it would tip over.

I plan on getting some bigger main gear tires, but can't get to the LHS before the...

Angle of "attack" question

I just moved to a grass runway and replaced my beat up nose wheel steering rod with a new one that is longer. However, since I didn't change the main gear, the airplane now is noticably higher at...

Beware

I've only been flying 18 months, most of the time I don't have "stage fright", but it does come back for special occasions like:

After a mishap.
When its windy.
Before my "qualifying flight" at...

Thanks

I was mostly worried about the epoxy bonding to old epoxy, the firewall came out in one piece with just a few thin shards of wood.

Minor Mod

Another minor mod is adding triangle stock to the base of the vertical stablizer (fin).

When I built mine there were a lot of people that recommended that due to a few seperating in flight.

Query

When did they replace the rubberbands with bolts?

That seems really, really stupid.

I built my LT-40 ARF about 18 months ago, today (first day at a new field), she nosed into a field from about...

Crashed - Reglueing question

Anyway, my LT-40 took a 30 foot nosedive into a field.

I have to reglue the firewall, which was epoxied in to begin with. Should I remove the old glue and wood fragments or make use of them?

Spinner Nut

The spinner that came with my LT-40 got tore up and came apart the first time I tried to start it.

I'm sure it was my fault... But,

I replaced it with a black spinner nut and never looked...

A Start for a 10 year old

Sounds like you're getting off on the right foot.

And I wasn't trying to discourage your supporting your son's interest, but making yourself the primary hobbyist, might have several advantages,...
