RE: Alchohol vs gasoline

I believe it's the nitromethane that makes the power, not the alcohol. Also, it takes nearly twice as much alcohol to generate the power of an equal volume of gasoline. Probably why the gasser planes...

RE: Homelite 45cc & Walbro HDB-6B

Well, I got the carb adapter and carb mounted, muffler installed, flywheel trimmed, prop hub made & fitted, and beam mounted (Hangar 9 mounts) to a test stand. The only prop I had to try it with was...

Homelite 45cc & Walbro HDB-6B

I'm converting a Homie 45cc using parts from Wacker Engines. The carb adapter kit supplied has a Walbro HDB-6B carb, which seems awfully big to me! It has, I'm told, a 15+ mm venturi. Nice looking...

RE: Surplus McCulloch's

I have a couple of the 32cc versions of this motor. Reasonably light, fairly powerful and the block design lends itself well to easy mounting options.

Changing out or modifying the muffler,...

RE: Ultra Hots & Ryobi

Please post some pics as soon as you get it completed! I'm putting together an Ultra Hots (and possibly a Giant Hots) this winter, and would really like to hear how yours turns out.

I'm...

RE: Poulan 42cc dies out

I had a McCulloch that would do the same thing. Turned out to be an air leak in the fuel line. Look for air bubbles in the line when you open the throttle...

RE: California Ryobi's?

Unfortunately along with the grooved cylinder it also has a single ring! It's been modified with a CH exhaust, tweaked carb, etc. He also discovered that the pistons on both engines are quite a bit...

California Ryobi's?

My neighbor (who got me into this small engine addiction) has been running an old Ryobi 31cc for a long time in a *big* plane of his own design, but always ran it on glow. It consistently turns 8K -...

RE: Dwell question

Weather has been bad here in the frozen Northland, but I finally had a nice day to try running my Mac outside. I purchased two additional "rare earth" magnets at Radio Shack and added them to the...

RE: 32cc Mac.

Unless you plan to use the stock muffler, you'll find that the Mac has a somewhat unique exhaust port configuration that requires a special muffler setup. AFAIK, Abell hobbies is the only source for...

RE: OK, So I screwed up!

Jim,
If you move up the merger/food chain you'll find that Weedeater is now owned by the Electrolux corporation, along with a whole slew of other acquisitions. I think Poulan is in that group as...

RE: Dwell question

[:o]OK, I think I understand it now, but I also think I may have a problem. See, I made my own hub which has a diameter of 1.75" (matches the diameter of the crankcase casting where the shaft exits)...

RE: Dwell question

Uh...yeah, guess I forgot to mention what I set the initial timing at. I have it set at 28 degrees, which I seem to recall is what the magneto is set for on trimmers & such. Seemed like a good place...

Dwell question

Just finished getting everything set up to test my 32cc McCulloch with the JEH ignition I built. Primed it up, gave a couple of flips of the prop and away she went! Idles fine, but there seems to be...

RE: Homemade prop hubs...

You can also use a 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" hole saw. I use it in a lathe, but a drill press will also work fine if you can center it cleanly. You have to be a bit careful to avoid hitting the magnet,...

Thanks for the info, guys! Here's some more info for those who are working with the 32cc Mac weedeater engine.

I called CH and they said they were no longer in the muffler business, but said...

McCulloch muffler

i've got a couple of the 32cc McMCulloch engines, which I've stripped down and converted. Nice little engine, much shorter than a Ryobi and should fit better in the Ultra Hots I'm putting together...

RE: homelite flywheel

The purpose is to reduce the drag they cause. Since the prop is nothing more than big fan that provides cooling air there is no reason to leave 'em on! There is also a bit of a weight reduction,...

Homelite question for the experts

Started stripping down a 25cc Homelite, it's one of those reconditioned leaf blowers, and noticed something odd about the exhaust port.

After removing the muffler for gutting, I noticed a small...

RE: What do you have your conversion in???

Wow! Did you have a problem getting the cg to balance with that much weight in the front? I'll bet you do have unlimited vertical with that combo!!
