RE: Giant Aeromaster

I can sympathize with the weight of the GA Kit. Basically, it's built the same as the 60 size, slab sides, etc. If I were to do it all over, I'd truss the sides of the fuse to start, get rid of all...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I never built one with both swept. I suspect it might be a bit more severe or touchy on stalls, since you have in effect a smaller MAC than with just the upper swept. I've built them all with the...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

It's got the mag on it. I was apprehensive about keeping it stock, with the mag. Almost sent it in to RCIGN for his conversion, still might as a matter of fact. But it's got the spring starter on...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

here we are a year almost since the last post, and I'm very happy to report that I've FINALLY got my G.A. Into the air yesterday! Took it out to the field, actually with no intentions of flying her...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

FWIW, I've got a GP Super Aeromaster hanging out in the garage right now. Fussed with the wing incidences until it flew right, didn't really "set" it to a specifice value, just shimmed the wings...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

Capt.... Did you wind up setting the top wing at -1 degree with the lower at 0? I've used that setup on almost all of my bipes and love it!

Just curious.. and, I don't quite believe the 0...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

hmm... now using just two servos has got me wondering...

Capt, What servos did you use? If I could get away with only 2 and no problems, I'd love to save the money and headaches of having to...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

The Saito is a great engine, but the GA is a bit on the heavy side for one, at least the "full build" version is. I haven't heard any weights of the ARF Version, but knowing GreatPlanes, they're...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

Interesting comment on the incidences. I noticed that '0,0,0' on the plans, which i'm questioning too. I've flown a LOT of bipes, and no matter what the plans call for, I've always settled on 1...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

yeah, i've seen the GP Pitts, and have to agree that there could be some improvements on the construction. All things considered, it does appear to be a pretty good design structurally, but as your...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I know Dick Pettit did a review on the GA a few years ago for RC Reports, and I've looked all through my 'archives' (read scattered all over the shop in piles here and there) but can't find it. I'm...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I'm not sure, but I think what he is getting at is that GP (Hopefully!) put it on a diet, shedding a couple of pounds of plywood by a modification of the structure. I put mine on a diet with a...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

hmmm. interesting, they're advertising a weight of 16-18 lbs for the ARF, wonder what kind of diet they put it on? That would be about the weight i'm trying to get to with mine.

RE: Giant Aeromaster

Big Bird,

Since I have the Luxury of access to an engineering copier, I always make a copy of the plans for anything I build prior to starting construction, so I''ve still got the original...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

Hooked... sounds like we're both of the same mind. I'm a bit surprised that you could cut that much out of the fuse, but then I looked at the formers again. I'm drilling a bunch of holes in them,...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I'm already being pretty liberal with the dremel and a sanding drum, taking out a LOT of weight. I'm pretty sure that if the fuse is built per the plans that Barry Bonds would find it pretty...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

Big Bird... Thanks for the thread, exactly what I was wanting! Luckily, I haven't done much glueing up of the fuselage yet, so it's gonna get some major ventilation here soon, along with some...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I was wondering about weight. Framing up the fuse yesterday, and wonder where I could get rid of some weight. This thing is built like the proverbial brick ___house. I'd love to get the weight...

RE: Giant Aeromaster

I was thinking more like a 3.2 or a g62 something along those lines, but I guess if you're having good luck with the smaller engines, I can save some $$$!
thanks!

Giant Aeromaster

After digging through my 'storage locker' at the local mini-storage place, I found a Giant Aeromaster that I had started some years ago. Decided I'd better go ahead and finish it up, before it turns...
