Default Sonic 8000 Kit - almost running

Kerry,

Thanks for your earlier help. I now have the turbine mounted to a test stand and almost running.

Here is the situation. I get it to light the propane on the very first cycle every time.
However, as the starter brings it up to speed the red light on the switch panel starts flashing. Thus ending the start sequence and not providing any fuel flow.
Since this begins before the propane lights I believe it to be an RPM sensor issue.

Is it possible to install the rpm board incorrectly ?

Could it be some other issue ?

Your description could be ...ECU Battery, RPM board or T/C. The Blinking Red Light indicates a fault error in the start sequence.

I will assume that when the start sequence terminates, the Red and Green lights are blinking together. Is this correct ?

Does the Starter engage once then terminate OR does the starter stay engaged completely until you turn the Control panel switch off ?

If you had a bad RPM board, the starter motor would most likely stay fully engaged and never cycle on and off. IF your starter motor is cycling, your RPM board is likely ok.

Lets look at the T/C. The Green wire of the T/C is to be located on the RIGHT side of the RPM Board Terminal block.

IF using the Older SIMJET ECU (2002-D2) , you need a min. of 10.3 volts to perform a proper start. IF using the GASPA ECU you need a minimumn of 7.6 volts

Please refer to the manula and the description of the contorl panel (switch) Light sequencing as it will help define what is happening.

Regards,

Thanks for your help

I went out and switched the T/C leads and plugged in a 11.1 Li-po

Now it still lights on Propane but it burns out glow plugs.

Additionally, it won't cycle the starter now, it tries once and then spins till I shut it off.

???

Changing the T/C wire will not cause plugs to burn out. The use of the 11.1 lipo will not be a single reason for the plugs to burn out.

We recommend the use of McCoy -MC-9's.

Also, you cannot install the RPM board incorrectly as it is simply bolted to the standoffs and that's it. There is one other possibility and that is the RPM board needs to be calibrated for the T/C. If this calibration is not properly set up, the ECU will think the turbine it is at high temp (even thought it has not run) and will immediately shut down on a flase high temp indication and dispaly error lights.

The Data terminal is needed to calibrate the RPM board.

I do not have an 8000 manual so we need to talk.

Not to worry, please provide your phone no. and I will call you later today and we will work it out.

Brg.

Kerry,

Thanks again for your help. You are top notch and have enormous patience.

I have not walked away from my workbench until now.

If we don't speak again before then . . . Have a good holiday.

Ivan
