I want a Byron A-4

Skyhawk,
Just a simple question, why a Byron? Do you have a Byrojet system?
Reason I ask, Byron is pretty old technology. The cost of putting one together plus some simple upgrades would probably end up costing as much as one of the newer A4's. Tamjets has a nice ARF, and Yellow (which has been out for many years) is a proven kit.
Myabe you have some very specific reasons, but I don't know......the Byron kit is pretty rough cut. I friend of mine had one that I was gonna build and I quit at hello. Plus, I've head that dealing with Iron Bay is not an easy task. It is not their primary business anymore.
Good luck!

I understand why you would want a byron, but good luck finding one. I want a Bryon F15 and F86 but there hard to find now. I have a Bullet and mig 15 and I love them.

I had the same feeling, had to have one!, I bought this Byron (airframe only) a few years back
It only had two flights on it, he dung up the nose a little and wanted to sell it. I COMPLETELY GUTTED the airframe and striped all the paint as if I bought this new, crazy but I like to know what I'm flying Installed spring air retracts with robart struts, has Bob Fiorenza T-38 alum wheels on mains, New OS 91, Brand New fan and pipe. Paint is a tinted 3 part Dupont Uro primer, painted very thin to keep weight down, very little paint on this bird, aeroloft (I believe) rub on decals and rivets, with painted VAQ-33 squadron insignia on fin, clearcoat is aerogloss flat clear, added some detail to the cockpit. Oh also, rudder is fixed, and elevator servo is mounted about 3.5" from elevator, I embedded/epoxied a more reliable linkage in the elevators - see photo below.
Maiden voyage coming soon, I have talked to a few that have flown them, they said they fly well, we'll see soon, I'll post the results.

A10FLYR,
Either or - doesn't matter. And I don't need the engine or pipe - I'll take a fan if one has one.
Thanks for all the info guys. I always liked the Byrons. I had one a while ago and although they are older technology and slower, I find they fly the best of all of them and it is also the biggest. (untill Tam brought out his) I also don't have the money for turbine so it's DF for me.
It is also more scale looking than most of the others, and I fly off grass fields - which the Byron has a proven track record.
willey,
That has to be one of the most beautiful examples of a Byron A-4 I've ever seen. Well done.

Just my 2 cents worth, but from my name, and my Byron hangar, take a look at: http://www.wannafly.com/brandts_hangar.htm
DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you like the Byron jets like I did and want to built one and hang it from the ceiling, great, but so many better choices for you regardless if you want it as a ducted fan or a turbine. For as much trouble, headaches, and eventually money that you will put into a ducted fan Byron A4 jet, your better off going with a A4 turbine kit. Won't get into what manufacturer is better, but take my word, the Byron A4 in today's market is just not worth it.

Byronman, Very, very impressive hangar indeed!!! Would LOVE to own a few that you have. Hat's off to you!
I totally understand where your coming from about today's technology, it's unbelievable compared to the "Byron days", but please help us & me out if you will, I have approx. $1200 in my A-4 - and your so right - alot of tinkering, but don't all D.F. & turbine pilots, their's always something to do on them, that's what jets are all about I guess. But anyway's, how do I go about purchasing a A-4 turbine that's ready to fly - that's in that dollar amount, or even close?
"PLEASE" understand that I am NOT in anyway trying to start up a rucuss here, In all seriousness "I would like some advice please" - because theirs 7 pilots (12 jets total) in our club that own turbines from trainer jets to high end BVM Machines and I'm the last survivor of the ducted fans, please set me up.
Thank you for your time in advance

I'm flying Byron jets but I converted mine to electric powered. Works great. Flies like a Byron but no mess from glow fuel. Cost of the motor and ESC is the same as the OS 91. Just sold my F-16 and ready to build a Byron Mig 15. The fan conversion is easy to do.

i understand completly where you guys are coming from. i also can't afford a turbine, so i fly fans also. i fly a byron f-16, byron f-86d, and a mig 15. i'm also working a buying a byron f-15 from a buddy that i fly with. i look at it this way, if i sold all my jets i could buy a turbine jet, but only 1. if i crashed a turbine jet i would be out of the jet flying, where if i keep my low buck jets and crashed 1 i still have 3 left to fly with until i can finance another one.
i also like the byron a-4. i have several byro-jet powerplants so i try to stick with byron.
just my .02 cents worth...

I have a Byron Bullet they look a lot like the A-4, same wings I think, I did mine with a electric conversion .Fast and fun not much to do but fly no work just add batteries. There is a video of it flying on u-tube .I have about $1000.00 in it so it's in your price range if you can get a deal on a kit.
