Default Bobcat + Spectrum AR 9000

Hi Guys,
After much thought I finally took the plunge and converted my 100 flt old Bobcat to 2.4 Gig
Im using the AR9000 with 2 remote extensions
Had 3flights today and here are the numbers on the flight log

Flight #1 Flight#2 Flight#3
Antenna A 107 107 55
Antenna B 151 119 111
Left Remote 45 28 30
Right Remote 59 33 41
Frame loss 108 0 1
Hold 0 0 0

Suprisingly I seem to have more fades on my main receiver than on the remotes
Are these numbers OK ?

I have about 150 spectrum flights between two jets. My observation is that the numbers for your remotes is pretty normal while your receiver numbers are a touch high. Nothing much to worry about. The Rx fades represent a total of maybe 2 to 2.5 secs of data loss on those rx's over the whole time the system is on while the remotes are around a second or so. The 100 frame losses on the first flight is definitely high but still only a total of 2.5 secs. Sometimes you can get high numbers if you get the airplane way out on the ground. Did you check the ECU for failsafe activity??

I wouldn't change anything particularly but if you want, you can see if some slight repositioning of the receiver makes a difference

Xantos,

could you post a picture of the install in the BobCat please? I will be fitting a 9ch 2.4Ghz in my BC in a couple of weeks and could do with some ideas.

12 flights on my Bobcat with AR9000 two weeks ago in two days, zero frames lost, perfect.

Main receiver on left side midships. 1 remote in canopy at front, another in fuselage behind canopy.

Regards, David Gladwin.

The guys at Spektrum told me that anything under a 400 reading is okay. However the lower the number the better. As far as frame loss is concerned they said it will take 44 or so consecutive frame losses to equal one hold so even if you get 100 frame losses but no holds they were not consecutive and they say that is fine. All the instals that I have done have been around the same numbers.

Jason
Here are some pics of the Bobcat /Spektrum install
I have mounted the main receiver vertically towards the rear of the component tray.
One remote Rx is mounted with velcro on the UAT and one remote Rx is on the left side in the nose near the nose gaear

I am about to install a AR9000 in my SM L39 and am wondering if there could be any receiver signal blockage when you are tail end on to the model due to the turbine shielding the receiver which would be in front of the turbine in that situation. They are such tiny aerials.

Haven't seen anything to suggest that's much of a problem. I range checked both of my jets tail on like I usually do and quit walking at 150 paces - engine off. One has a full internal engine & tail pipe, the other is a Rookie II. That's more than my 72 mhz receivers. I have seen on occasion a higher number of fades but those tend to roughly correlate to the times I've had the jet way out there on the ground.

I think Xantos Rx could be a little clearer of the equipment, but I also have to admit, the main rx in the jet with the internal engine mounting & full tailpipe is in amongst all the stuff too.

I think the ability to mount the remotes in clear space well away from everything is the real key. I've only been using the one remote and I have it mounted with the antennas vertical like Xantos' picture.
