OK, why is it when I'm reading all your threads and you guys in the states are on about buying parts I get mad?
Answer?
Cos whatever price you are paying in $ american I am paying in £ sterling!!
Examples - and I promise I'm not making this up.
I just bought a hitec 625mg servo, price £42.00
Aluminium diff housing for ofna pirate monster £40
ofna pirate monster rtr £470
Gallon of 16% nitro £26
Dominator Rims/tyres/inserts £80
Go onto am exchange rate site and see how much that works out at in Dollars. Would you pay that much for parts?
The list could go on. I know that OFNA is an importer, because the importer in the UK is CML distribution and they have ties with OFNA as they import from the same company in Taiwan. So why is it so bloody expensive across this side of the pond?
Sorry to moan, but you say its expensive over there, try running nitro over here!!!

I tried to ship the dominator wheels over here. They cost $60 all in (inserts etc) Then the shipping would have been an extra $85 !!!!!!
As for standards of living I'm not sure. Up till afew months ago I was a telephone engineer with British Telecom - you know, climbing utilty poles, installing/maintaining lines etc and I got paid £18,500 a year. So what does an AT & T guy get paid?
On top of that, the average house price over here is now £125,000 for a basic 3 bedroom house. Oh yeah, and fuel is £3.60 a gallon. (Yes you read that right)

I would say a at&t telephone tech. makes 30,000.00-50,000.00 a year in the states. A average 3 bedroom hous in the states might be around 125-200,000.00. I would just start buying the products made over there! FG, Bergonzoni, Carson, Protech (OFNA), Technokit, ........I like those brands! As a matter of fact I WANT a bergonzoni 1/8th buggy!

Anyhow, that is not very much at all because in the same location, a 20 year old house, 3 bedroom, 2 baths, are going in the rate of $400K and up. If you get lucky, you might be able to find one at $350K.
ManicMechanic - why don't you move to the U.S. You can run nitro much cheaper

dg2b, just asking since you live in San Jose, have you ever been to that new development there called Santana Row? The architectural firm I work for did the Maggiano's and Chili's restaurant in that development. I myself did the Chili's.

beardking - yes, I have been to the Santana Row for lunch and wife dragging me over to shop. Very nice, upscale shopping palace. Nice job in the design.
flyingjibus - sorry for some Cali screwing things up north. I wish I have the bag of cash some of them walks around with. They are not just doing it with other states, they are doing it for those who are less paid in Cali too.

You can buy a great home in Denver Colorado for 200,000. Why would I want a smaller home for twice the money in Cali? No thanks. And jobs do pay well in Co. too!

i too work in the telecom industry. I work on the inside wiring though. here in new york a Verizon pole smoker( guy who climbs poles) after 5 years makes somewhere near $70k a year.
New York is all Union workers so thats where the wages come from.
a house up here in new york(not manhattan cause they dont have "houses") will run you somewhere near $350K. ofcourse you can buy a small bungalo from the 1920's, and if you live buy yourself its great. if you have a family forget about it.
i find it real hard to believe that there are no either online or retail hobby shops that have these products your looking for with out having to pay extra to have them shipped from the USA.
there has to be something else you can do besides ordering from over here.

I agree here in the states things sports wise are screwey... football ehhh its ok.. baseball snore.. hell we have a golf channel here!!!! *** is that! ohh and the most popular form of auto racing is oval racing Nascar junk?!?!? watching cars go left.. lap after lap after lap for hours.. yeah ooohhh fun.
Now rugby that is nuts. like football but 10x more brutal with no pads! Also WRC is popular across the pond! Over here most people don't even know what the WRC is. Formula one is popular over there too. Most open wheeled racing here is on an oval track of course. heck are there any oval tracks at all across the pond?
One thing I do like here though is drag racing. in the midwest chicago area there are 4 drag strips within an 1-2 hour drive. There are shops that specialize in making camaros and firebirds or mustangs fast for street/strip straight line driving. The drag strip is fun though because anyone can do it from a minivan to pro street car. Also monster truck racing is a blast to watch and something that only americans would come up with... lol! heck without teh monster trucks in teh states there would be no savage, no t-maxx! this hobby would not be nearly as big as it is now without monster trucks.
