Believe me you will get the jitters for a long time, I've been doing this for 4 years now and I still get the prerace butterflys even worse is in a gas truck A- main when you have to stand in one place for 30 minutes your knees will start shaking. It does get a little less nerve racking after you have done it for a while just race your own race and don't worry about any one else on the track cuz you are on your own clock for the heats anyway.

one thing that i notice ALL begines do is when a car comes side to side with you or you go side to side with one people tend to gun it or get even more jittery so i would suggest just letting the car pass or go for a pass so your not right next to each other
belive me ive had my own experences with it

oh and #1 DO NOT!!!!! just try and be fast all around remember its your 1st race just go at about 10 15 mph the average speed around most tracks is just over 7mph so dont be speed racer thats how i make it into the A pretty much every time

I am not sure where you race - I have not seen any that go that slow yet. But yes it is good advice for a new driver. There is this one guy that sometimes win when he has a single speed only hitting the low 30 - 35MPh. He sometimes wins against the really fast cars out there.
But at our track we have a straight away thats about 60 - 70 yards, some of the guys are hitting 60 - 75MPh on it. I have a NTC3 that if I am lucky hits around 50'ish. I am going to regear it for more top end speed.
Attached is my NTC3 but this is not the body I race. This is the body for when I pimp around the neighborhood. I slide all over the road with this body, but very fun to drive.

From: home,
I was so nerous I nearly puked on the track. I was only 6 at the time.
I took the advice of going slow (so I wouldnt tear up my car) and ended up winning my first race out because everyone else kept crashing into the barriers trying to advoid me.hehehe

find a good driver, watch what he does, watch were he slams on the brakes, were he slids through the turn were he takes it slow, where he gun is and goes all out.
if you can during the race get behind him and follow. pretty soon you will start to get the feel for the racing line, were the brakeing zones are, and what speed you need to enter what turn at.
also try to befriend him, ask him if he wants to share some tips, what gearing he recomends for the track and why. If he seems like he doesnt want to talk back off, but if he talks keep him talking. ask him why you would take this turn at that speed, etc etc. some people like to share info and you can learn alot from them.
