Default smartfly expander

Hi Ritchie. I am considering your expander and turbo reg but I notice that all pics show front end receivers. I have futaba r129 dp pcm receivers and was wondering f if the pigtails from the expander will fit?

What about powering my smoke unit from the expander ? Do I plug the power and receiver plug into the expander or should I go to a stand alone system since this will only be used for free style and shows etc?

thanks for the input!

Hi Capcanuck,
The PowerExpanders are meant only for end-loading receivers. The wires are just too short to go all the way around to a top-loading receiver. I have had a number of people use top-loading receivers by doing one of two things. Most common is to turn the receiver upside down. The other way, which only 2 people have done, is to make the wires longer.

As to powering your smoke pump off the PowerExpander, it is still advisable to keep things like this powered separately unless you are sure they will not generate any interference.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Ritchie. OK I understand but if I mount the receiver upside down, aren't all the hookups in reverse? Are you planning on making one for conventional receivers?
Thanks

Hi Lee,
Actually if you look at the Futaga receivers, the order of the channels is reversed between the top-loaders and the end-loaders. Not sure why they did this but it works out. I will probably make a PowerExpander Lite version for top-loaders later this spring. I have some other things to get out of the way first. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

HI Robert. Capcanuck with another question concerning the expander and super reg. I was wondering about the sequence of hooking up my batteries to the superreg. Do I plug them in directly to the reg, and use the on/off switch from the reg to put power to the expander? Can I do a load test on the superreg to see my battery voltages?
I want to eliminate as many switches as I can, so with this setup I only have the one provided with the superreg and one seperate system to my ignition. I realize that there is a constant draw to the batteries this way, but can I safely leave the batteries (2400 TBM LiIons) plugged in all day in a contest?
Thanks and can't wait to get this baby going...first IMAC comp in 3 weeks! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Hi,
My automatic notification for posts got turned off and I guess I relied on that too much. Please accept my appologies.
The battery drain by the SuperReg is very low, about 10mAH a day. You can leave your batteries connected all day
at least. I have let mine all week on occasion with no problems. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Robert. Thanks for the response. I am just about ready for the maiden and can't wait to get this baby going! The installation of the superreg and expander went well (I'll post pics later) and the receiver flip over works fine[8D]
I was thinking of hooking up some I4C volt watches to the super reg but decided on just putting the battery leads to outside plugs where I can hook up an ESV and quick charge the batteries as needed. Wish I had your flag switch instead of the regular switch though. The switch is too short for my fusulage side and I have to place it inside with a wire sticking out (loses the "cool factor" [:'(]) .

Hi,
Did you order the SuperReg before the P&F switch was available? We do have the P&F available separately. Air Mail to Canada would not be too bad, not as expensive as Global Express.
Let me know if I can do anything more.

Hi Robert. I got the super reg from a friend in Canada and he had the regular switch. No problem though as I used a Dubro hd mount that holds the switch and one of the charge leads just fine. The other lead I'll fudge somewhere for checking voltages, or maybe order a Voltwatch or something to keep an eye on the other battery.
Hooked everything up tonight and seems solid as a rock. Also left the LiIons plugged in for a couple of hours to see how much the voltage would drop...less than 2 tenths after two hours[8D] Should be maiden flight by the weeknd but somehow I think mother nature or mother's day may put that off by a few days [sm=wink.gif]
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
Thanks for the update. Good luck with the maiden flight when weather permits.
