Default Direct Servo Hookup

OK Robert.

I think my problem is I don't have a clear understanding of DSC and what it does, but here goes. Concerning my PowerExpander, I will be using a Futaba 148 DP (as Ill in the expander booklet) If I will be using Ch #8 which is the shared channel of the Bat input. Could I not go ahead and plug the three wire DSC pigtail beside the 9 ch inputs into the Rec. and pick up the useage of ch #8 on the 8 a.b.c.d. side of the expander?? I don't understand the useage of the Female/Female ext that is written in the booklet or the longer DSC pigtail on the other side of the expander between the deans input and output I also know I need to order some more stuff as I will be using a two bat system. Thanks for your help. Hooker53

Hooker... I'm not Robert and don't claim to be but let me see if I can help here. The DSC is soley intended for use with your transmitter.. hard wired between the TX and the DSC. What this does is allow you to adjust servos, play with mixes, see what's working and what's not without turning on the TX. You plug the DSC cord into your transmitter and the other end into the DSC on the power expander. It really doesn't have anything to do with channels. Once plugged in and without turning your TX on, the TX powers up and without transmitting any signal, allows you to manipulate all the functions as if the TX and the RX was in the operating position. This DSC system is normally used when setting up an airplane etc. at a fraction of the battery drain. Some say your module will overheat if the antenna is down for extended periods of time with the TX on. Whether or not this is true, you don't need the antenna when utilizing the DSC function. I hope this somewhat helps...

John,

Thanks so much for a speedy send back. I see now. I just plug in the expanders three wire pwr/dsc plug into ch #8 on the rec. and plug the servo into the expander ch #8 a.b.c.or d and away I go. Well---you learn something when you least expect. All of my TX (to my knowlage @*!$%) don't have DSC. Or at the least I have not used it. If I know I will have the TX on for awhile for a set-up, I pull the Ant out all the way. That was what was throwing me here. I think when I order the rest of the set-up from Smart-fly I will like it. Thanks again. Hooker53

Hooker,
If I understand what you say you are going to do, it will not work.
What you need to do is hook the white wires to their respective channels and on your free channel, hook up the three wire DSC RX connector. If you do what you say you are going to do, the channel 8 information will come out the femail DSC connection.

Robert may respond officially but I didn't want you to hook it up and cause an issue.

Geistware,

It's always great to see that name come through especially on a rare post of mine. Thanks so much for your input. That clears it up even more. I Think. I know if I had it all out on a table I could see what would work and what would not before causing an issue. I was trying to think beyond the actual doing with a scenario of all Channels of the Rec. being used. If this is this case where all Ch. will be used than you would have to make up and use a pig-tail at the Bat/#8 Ch Input on the Futaba 148-DP??? Right. At my field I would be the first to use one of these, so I am learning from the bottom up. In most cases when a new concept like this one comes along, you get to see it first hand somewhere or at your field and of coarse in comes the "Picture is worth a thousand words" deal. Ha. Ha. Roy aka Thanks again. Hooker53

Hi Hooker,
There are a couple things you can do in your situation. One is to hook up the Pwr/DSC plug and then make an female-female adapter so you can hook your channel 8 servo into the DSC lead that comes out by the Deans connectors. The other thing you can do, which I did, is to remove the white wire from the Pwr/DSC plug (very carefully so as to not break the small tab of plasitic that retains the pin) and remove the channel 8 wire from its plug. Then plug the channel 8 wire into the Pwr/DSC plug and you are set. You can then access channel 8 on the channel 8 servo outputs.
Please let me know if any of this is not clear or you need additional information.
