Super regulator switch

Hi, I have a super regulator and I`m about to install it on a plane. I wanted to know if I can use any switch to turn it off?
I`m usng Duralite batteries and I soldered deans connector to their outputs so I can connect them to the regulator. i have some superSwitches and two fromeco badger switches. Can these be used for the remote on/of function?

Hi John,
Sorry but a standard switch cannot be used to turn the SuperReg on/off. The problem is that the SuperSwitch expects the white (signal) wire to be shorted to the black (ground) wire to turn the regulator off. A standard switch only switches the red (power) wire while the other two are just passed through. You "could" rewire the output plug on one of your switches by putting the red wire where the white wire is. You would then have to short the red to black on the input side of the switch.

Now another question about the setting up of my system, can I install it like this:
Batteries go to separate switches.
Switches go to the two inputs on the regulator.
Regulator connected to power expander as per instructions.
Any advice?

Regarding the output of the super regulator, the manual says that it will provide 7.5 AMPS (at input of 8.4 Volts and regulated at 6 volts) Is this for each of the outputs or the two combined?

Just for information, the duralite regs. can provide 7.5 AMPS each. So, can the set up be:
Two batteries, each one to a fromeco badger switch.
each switch to a Dural. regulator with deans connectors.
Each regulator to one of the power expander sport input.
I know I could of just bought the Turbo Reg. but I have all this equipment and I`m trying to see if it can all be used together.

Hi John,
You can use the Duralite regulators. You will see one side pull the battery down a lot faster than the other though because of the mis-match of the regulators. You will essentially be running on one regulator on light loads and the other will kick in at higher loads, how high depends on how badly they are mis-matched. I need to ask one thing though since you will be running on one regulator a lot of the time, what size plane is this and is the wire on the regulator 22ga? If you have 22ga wire and you have a 40% plane than I would be a bit worried about the wiring. 22ga is just not big enough on a 40% plane.

I was assured by Duralite that the 22 gauge wire on the regulators will deliver 7.5AMPS but I will change my regulators soon for one of your Turbo Regulators when I switch to the 40%. On the 33% I will have 6 hitec 5985 servos on the main surfaces and two futaba 9153`s on the rudder (these futabas are known to thirsty servos) and two coreles analog 9206 futabas on the throttle and choke.
Robert, the mis-match on the regulators you are talking about, what is it? (I`m learning a lot more everytime I talk to you! thanks)

I tested one of their regulators by putting a 7.5 amp load on it and the wires melted in about 2 minutes. You will not see that kind of continuous load but in my opinion they are using too small a wire, at leas for a single connection, for that amount of rated current. For the 33% you should be fine. It just depends on if you can live with the mis-match. Since they are fixed regulators it can vary from slight to extreme. The mis-match means they are set for slightly different regulation voltage due to component tolerances. One may be set for 5.95 volts and the other may be set for 6.05 volts. The 6.05 volt unit will run all the time while the 5.95 volt unit will only kick in when the load on the 6.05 volt unit causes enough voltage drop in the wire and connectors to match its 5.95 volt setting.

Do you think that I can run the servos I mentioned with the SuperRegulator connected to the 2 duralites (4000mAh) and the Power Expander with no problems?
I will have to change the type of batteries I`m running to something that has a better cable too, can you recomend the batteries?
