Default Aeroflyte Sabre Conversion Help

Hi, I am converting an aeroflyte sabre wooden boat to an rc version. The boat is only 400mm long. Ive got a castle creations phoenix 25A speedy, Motor Max 400 brushless and a 11.1V lithium im going to put in it. Has anyone converted one of these before? They are mainly found in Australia.
Im not sure where abouts to make the prop shaft come out of the boat cause i am sure the standard hole is way to far forward and will push the nose down to much cause of the angle too. Also would i be better off the run a gear drive with such a small motor? Does anyone know any good plans for making a small rudder system preferably aluminium for a boat of this size?

Thanks

Hmm Tunnel hulls,

They normally use an outboard arrangement, but in your case I'd recommend a flex cable for that, it should mean you can position the drive parrallel and as far back as you like.

You might be better off fitting a 480 if it will fit or even an Ebay brushless/esc combo if you want to spend the money as 11.v will be too much for a 400 and will cause meltdown, a gear box will be a waste of time and weight for a Micro hull.

I dont know who the best supplier will be for Oz, but a lot of the good stateside companies stock this stuff

For Ideas look at:

If i use the 400 and a 8.4V or 9.6V battery pack, i was thinking of running a gearbox cause i think i can get it to fit. Or would i be beter off to run it direct drive with a small low pitch prop.

Can you link that motor I have the mamba 8000 so I also have the same esc
People told me I could not use the 8000KV motor in a boat so something larger like a 400 would be better
I also want to make a small boat, this looks like a neat project.

I would recommend Direct drive preferably and please forgive me, I misread your original post (I was a bit sleepy as I am now!), 11.1v with the brushless you have will be fine as long as it doesnt spin too fast (say somwhere around 30,000 Rpm), the mamba will have far too high RPMs at 11.1v, you may well be advised to use a plane gearbox if it is much above 3200Kv I'm not sure yet that my mono setup will be controllable at full throttle, watch my Gecko thread and I'll let you know how it turns out, it may help, also try Sonnich's Hydro Sprint thread.

If worst comes to worst you can buy a slower micro brushless and use the ESC you have, they are pretty cheap on Ebay for a generic Feigao.

Finally start with a small prop and move up following tests, at high rpm's like these you will need to stay reasonably small

I would run on less then 11.2V I would only use 8.4V
What do you recomend for the esc to use as a motor in a small boat.

I'm sorry I don't understand that question, could you repeat it?
