If anyone could hook me up with the black box and wires (I dont need the motors) it would be great. I'll pay shipping of course.

Thanks,
Drew

Fingers crossed this isnt a dead forum, but is there any chance the transmitter and the receiver are still good, because I want to upgrade mine with an outboard. So is it just the servos holding it back?

What do you wish to use for an outboard?

Not entirely sure yet, I really need to have a good look around, plus i'm on limited funds here so I'll have to save up. The main thing I want to know is will I have to buy a new transmitter and receiver and if not, will i get good modulation when turning and accelerating or will it be all on or all off like the current setup.

Yes, it will be the same as stock as long as the stock radio exists in your boat.

You might want to also pick up an ESC.

what is the size of the motor in the outboard??

is it that aquacraft outboard meant for that fishing boat they make??

could 2 of em be put on this boat??

im looking to upgrade, so far, i got an emptey hull...

would a single 800 outboard work also?? this one would be a surface prop instead of a subsurface prop,,,,

yeah it's that 1 they use in that fishing boat, but that hull doesnt look too good, but i've seen the outboard on other boats before and it looks pretty fast. I'm actually thinking i might just build a tunnel boat from scratch.

How does it handle with those wings and what size 540 are inside? Thanks! Your email says undeliverable cause your not their customer. I'd love to dismattle one unit and gut it and do my thing just to see if i can do it, it would be fun! Thanks for trying email, i appreciate it!

the wings dont do too much...i think they might help to keep the boat upright if it ever tries to flip

the 550 IS the size of the motor

if you mean the 550 for the outboard motor

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMPN6&P=0

if you mean the stock motors...they have 380's in them...they arent good and the electrics cant handle the setup

the best thing you can do is buy the 550 (or the whole outbord andjust set it up for that) a new esc, servo, and buy a rudder/strut combo...you might also want to add a peice of 1/4" ply to the transom, the plastic is too thin there..

I make my own hardware and i see the rudder is an extention of the strut. My struts are K & S pipe doubled up with nylon inserted on the dog drive end. The rudder blade is brass with brass 3/16" rod going up thru brass 1/4" pipe. I solder a small piece of brass there and then i use .064 aluminuum ( 3/4' ) wide piece doubled with holes for weight loss and then bend both ways for side strenght. I try on this kind of setup to center components close to center line. The rx gets aluminuum sticky foil wrapped around it to keep from any noise from stuffing tube and motor and battery lines. I do not use bec as it picks up any noise. Now as you see , it is an easy setup if done from scratch. I like to lay all components in hull loose to get correct cg. I make all my close to keel strakes bigger so it rides a hair higher and don't need a powerhouse to run boat. My run times are probably 30 seconds longer but i watch that real close. Thanks for reading this. All this stuff works and if it didn't , i wouldn't post. I like the way they ride in the water not moving, there's a certain aire about it! The motor is going to take some more thought and the weight is also a factor!

Hi, I just bought the NQD high wind 757 off of ebay and was pretty satisfied ....for about 10 mins.......i was wondering if there is anything i can do to make my run time increase at all? I was thinking about putting 2 480s in because i have read plenty of positive notes on it, not many negative. But is that all i would need to do? im going to buy a 3200 mah battery but im also wondering if those will just cook the motors. I'm running a bone dry stock boat with a 2000 mah battery of mine and it heats up after just 10 mins. (no smoke, cool enough to touch) I was also wondering what would be better putting in 2 480s... and ill do that if i don't have to change much...or will it be better to put one 700 motor in and water cool it....if so would i have to change any electrics???? I'm not looking for speed, i satiffactory in that department, I'm looking for run time in a $100 range

twin 480's will work, youll need to cut the end of the motor mounts so it can fit (longer can)....they wont fry on a 3200mah batt....if the motors draw too many amps, the esc/receiver/thing might.....i think you would be much better off running a 700SC on 12 cells using a jeti navy 600esc....youll go faster, the run time depends on the mAh of the batts...the higher the mah the longer the run time....beleive me, youll be wanting more speed than run time....the hull has alot of potential...the stock electrics...well....im surprised they can survive with the stock batt....

i dont think run time will change if you use the 480's....in fact, depending on how many amps they draw, the run time could be shorter....

thank you very much for that information, so are yous saying that the 480s willl get hotter just as fast if not faster but will not fry...and are you saying i should buy and replace the electrics if i'm going to buy these new motors? (i really am bent on buying the 480 instead of the 700 because it would be less room for work/mistake)im new at this u can prolly tell

if it was set up right, the motors should only get warm...

you woulnt need to buy new electrics for the 480's....but i cant really tell you what motors will work...i dont know how many amps the esc can take, i dont know what the turn limit of the esc is....

i wouldnt be worried about the motors frying...id be worried about the esc...that thing could hardly take the stock setup, but if the 480;s pull more amps than the esc can handle, it might fry....

i still think you should try the 700...your eventually going to have to try to setup a boat if your going to get into this hobby, might as well try it on a cheap hull than screw up on an expensive one...you can still try the 480's but i would suggest you try a 700 once you get bored of this setup...

you're right i probably will but right ....I'm going to buy another one of these boats after this for practice and try all kinds of new things because i can get them for $40 ...it'd be more expensive to mess up now with the 700 lol ..thank you very much im probably going to start ordering in the next few days....i was just wondering if u happened to know a good place to buy the 480 for $15- $20 a piece?...keep in touch ill prolly need your help with the wiring when i install the motors

i think it would be better to just not waste your time modding this hull and buy an actual quality boat....

but if you insist, i would find a local hobby shop and check there....i got a couple of cheap speed 400's for 5$ each at my LHS...

Do what I did for a Neighbours son and said ' well OK, he can stop doing RC and start doing drugs"

Needless to say they saw things my way and are now more willing to allow their son to do RC..

Default RE: NQD High Wind 757 upgrade

Inspired by dazzler441 I've decided to upgrade my NQD High Wind with twin 480 motors.

I bought the boat on Ebay for £24 delivered, with the intention of scavenging the radio gear for a car, however, the radio gear turns out to be "toy grade" junk, and I am now intending to fit radio gear scavenged (ironically) from a RC car.

The plan is to use 2 x 480 motors as suggested by dazzler. also to fit an ESC from an RC car, along with a servo to provide rudder steering rather than the lame vector push steering as standard. There is a rudder fitted to the boat as standard, but it is only there to provide manual trimming of the boat to compensate for differences in the motors. I will use the exisiting rudder position to fit a servo rudder. Any advice as to a cheap and appropriate rudder would be appreciated.

The overheating mentioned by others appears to be largely caused by the motors overloading when the weight of the battery is too far back, pushing the surface drive impellers under the water. However, I intend to address the heat issue to some degree by replacing the aluminium motor retainers/heatsinks with new copper ones, fashioned by beating copper pipe flat and then bending to shape. I will also be placing the battery in a forwards position, where the receiver box was originally. The new radio gear and servo will live in the area previously occupied by the battery.

The drive coupling between the motors and propshaft is a simple plastic "dog-bone" UJ, similar to the metal ones used in RC cars. It looks perfectly adequate to me, and I will use them to keep costs down, but will lubricate them with grease.

I've tried uploading pictures of progress so far, but not sure if they will display?
