Default replacement 550's

i have question if i were to replace the twin 550 motors in my superhawaii boat
can i use some trinity r/c car motors 540 type like 18 turn ones, will it be a noticeable difference. i know lot of people replace it with a single 700 but i not sure if i ready for that yet.

I'm doing the 700 conversion on my SH now, but I think I've heard of others using different 500 size motors in theirs.
If I'm not mistaken the stock motors are about 27 turn, an 18 turn would be faster, with less torque.
That would mean it would take you longer to get the nose out of the water, but could be faster.
There are 2 main problems with upgrading motors using the stock setup(mechanical speed control upgrade assumed) :
1. Plastic main gear can easily be torn up by stronger motors.
2. Strudder is not efficient in many ways, eats power in turns and bushings should be replaced if not the whole thing.

Saying that, if you do try different motors, replace the battery bolt pass through arrangement.
I always loved the sound of the outdrive and gearbox on the Super H but do realize it's drawbacks.
If you can't find anyone willing to talk about SH upgrades, look around for Villan upgrades.
I'm pretty sure they use dual motors and are around the same size and weight, good luck.

SB...

yeah, you can put other in it, I had two 20 turn stingers in mine(yeah i know that they arnt good motors, but the stocks where shot and Its all i had) they worked fine, Id replace the bushings with ball bearings, never had a main gear go out...even running an all or nothing microswitsh when the msc went out, and i had them wired in series, 14.4 volts to each motor, i wouldnt recommend that unless you use motors made for an e-maxx which runs 14.4 volts...and e-mass stockers are fan cooled also. on mine i took off the hatch cover the motor compartment, then cut the fronts nicely out of the two big scoops on the hatch which helped a ton with motor temp, it screamed, the boat would really benifit from a better prop but I dunno what one to run for that setup which also veries with which motors you run, and yeah the outdrive and gearbox sounds awesome running out full throttle. to water cool it in stock for would be hard with the stock pinions as the put the motors very close, so maybe a coil the was oval shaped and went around both motors would do the job...

i was looking at some granpeur motors for the SH, would it be smart to put in a 500 bb motor, or would 600 series motor fit in my SH it looks like its just longer.?

Do you know what the dimensions of your 600 are?
I think the shaft size is the same for the 500 and 600 so the gears should fit, but the mounting holes would be the problem.
Then again the motor mounts for the SH are slotted so it may not matter.
The original motors were coined as 550's, basically a 600, so I might be weary of using the 500BB.
There should be plenty of room as you noted.

RCBM did an article on hopping up this boat a few years back. They used the Trinity 17 turn single wired motors for their project. Finding the article would be a challenge for me, I have stacks of their issues.
