I know nothing about electric boats because I am used to gas and nitro.
Has anyone every used a cordless drill components.
The motor / chuck for clamping to the prop shaft and the battery
I have a spare 12v cordless drill with 2 speeds and is powerfull with forward and reverse

Actually we are planning to use a Dewalt Drill motor to power a 60 inch model of the Red October. We have used them very successfully to power 1/6 scale combat tanks that shoot paintballs. Plenty of torque. If you really want some fun look at wheel chair motors that are used to power combat robots.

A 46 is about 7.5cc
This sounds like a good idea then
I am considering buying a 42" cruiser which has a small motor in it, not sure on the size it has.

I hooked 21 3700MaH cells to an 18v Dewalt drill motor last night, and it near jumped out of my wifes hands. Forget the chuck, and while the motor is turning in a vice on 6-7 cells, use a mill (*******) file to grind away the shaft until it fits into a 5mm coupler. Then make a motor mount to fit the bolt pattern. Also will need to put diode or capacitors to reduce motor noise and keep servos from glitching. But I bet that it would power a good sized prop without burning up.
