i only have my Sv for few weeks and, the last 2 with k42 and temps pretty low , i like to move to a k45
when i get some lipos, the Ni-hm packs get 120s/deg with 8-14min of riding around with current setup ...my FIRSt lipos should be here any day
im looking forward to it, with lots testing lol .....i think a 3blade 44mm would be nice on the boat tho ...
How much does carbon props flex? anyone seen this

PUFF PuFF cloud of smoke.......

i was up till 1am last nite finishing up the , Sv , putting novak cuttoff in there and did a neat job , so this noon im like ill run
a check up, going out with lipo for the first time later today(thought) so i take my new charged lipos 8.4v and trow it in the SV
put 1 on, then as im connecting the 2nd deans all i see is Smoke pooring out of the dam boat, the livingroom was filled .....at this point , i wanted to run into the wall head first, but i had to clear the room out and see what happened.....the novak cut off was Burned up all the wires, and started to melt back to the ESC, i dont care about the novak, but if i burned my motor up or esc..i was gona be hella Sad lol .......

i cut off the 2 power lead from novak, hands shaking looking over the lipios for 5min,did they puff, was it skinnier? They did not puff or anything?
plug everything bck to normal and put on a ni-hm pack and NAda , no noise etc...im like come on baby ....I forgot to turn the radio on lol so when i did i heard that single beep ,and 5 more after trigger pull, checked out all functions ,working well.....

I THink i hooked on the 3pin cable wrong from the radio to novak bck to radio thats the only thing i can guess, all solder job looks factory /shrink nada touching etc .....i riped ou the novak so fast i didnt have a chance to look how i had it , soon as i seen the smoke i unpluged everything Pack first ofcourse......

any opinions......besides dont wrk at 1am tired LOL .....

Ok here is the way best i can remember it....off course i already cut the power leads to the Novak 4s cutt off, guess for the next one coming LOL....I might be barve enought to try to see if this novak died for good? Can anyone tell me how to check it? the chips dont look burned just the wires, that can be changed out ....i dunno

Update: i went over the wiring and the 4s /cutoffs 2 main wires where only getting 7.4v on the negative side from the batt harness..... i guess i put it on the wrong negative wire , and the unit was NoT getting the 14.4v like its meant too..
But why would that smoke the wires etc? i dunno

Did you short one of your batteries with the novak cutoff?  What you're describing really sounds like a short...In which case the smallest gauge wires will get hottest first and melt the insulation off of them.  I've seen it happen to balance plugs, smart stops, ect.  Check to make sure you didn't create a short, then check your batteries with a volt meter to make sure red is positive and black negative.  Wires can get soldered on packs backwards from the factory too.

Lot of good info up there ^^

In addition I would not run a carbon prop and also down size to around 45mm. maybe an X645.

Ryan

Say what?
CF props work great!
I run a CF48 on my SV and it ripps

To each their own. I don't know why you would install a low voltage cutoff if you didnt intend to use it for it's purpose. I have never once had my cutoff fail, but I can say if I timed my runs that I would end up with a different ending voltage every time depending on water conditions and driving style. I can definitely understand timing runs in a plane, but that's a different story. Your boat wont fall out of the sky, just stop for a minute.

Just and average base run to give an idea of how much time may be left in the packs...
One of the best things for those who race is time their runs..
when we spend over 1k on power and batteries we never trust an LVC, they are just added insurance when we lose track of time, but the guys I race with never let our boats hit the cutoff
batteries can get stressed if you always goto the lvc in a boat... boats works batteries very hard

Hit 40.5 today (my personal best) with the ss 220prather, this was faster than the x-645. No matter what prop I use the motor runs at 152 and the esc runs at 142, this is with extra h2o pick up and 2 cooling runs. It sure is a blast to run .

I thought it looked a little faster in the earlier vids, but itprobably justlooked faster because youwere running in a smallerarea. I wish I would have gotten a vid of mine before I lost the prop shaft. I don't know if I'll be able to get it back out this year. Have a lot going on and the boating season is dwindling down here in Michigan.

Dwindling down, up here in Michigan.
Is that your Supervee with the 8XL on ebay?  If it's not, you should check it out and see what it sells for.

The boat looks Fast....what was the speed last time you checked?

I ran Lipos first time today and, one of the packs cells when down to 2.95v while the other side was 3.5v.......the other pack was fine but off by maybe .01v......that pack suspicious pack was of .7 after 2 hr bal , so i was keeping a eye on it ,
the Novak 4s cutoff didnt go on cause both packs was 13.85v and cuttoff is 12.5v.........i kept eye on it for awhile chargeing and it bounced back fine, and charged to 4.21/4.22v on the 2S ..........
Can Anyone tell me what the sysmptoms off a bad lipo cell is , besides fire lol ...
