Start out with a 38mm prop. See how that works out then switch to something bettter.

how about this motor

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLXA0&P=7

it has about the same kv rating but is half the price, but i don't know much about brushless so i don't know if it would substitute for the 9L. i am also interested in running a om26 on six to seven cells, not for racing so mid 20s is fine for me too. anyone know if this motor would work?

would the supervee esc work good with that if i took off one of the connectors to only run one 6 cell? if not than whats a good, relatively inexpensive brushless esc. Actually, offshore carries the entire supervee system for only 160$ with watercooling and such. Would the supervee system itself run fine on 6-8 cells or is the motor just designed for more power.
thanks

darn, i really liked that package from offshore. Do you know anything about the "Pulso" brushless esc from offshoreelectrics, i haven't seen it before, but its quite cheap, probably a bad sign[]. i just want a boat that will handle some rough water and waves but still be able to do some speed runs. i really wanted the supervee but i know it won't like the waves

My SV ESC arms perfectly well for anything from 6-14 cells.

i just checked the rc boat modeler review and he says that it will take 6-15 cells. but with six cells will it be even worth it or is it still pretty quick

I'd guess my SV was moving around 20mph with just 6 cells and a 51mm prop. Getting on plane was instant. I dont have any GPS data for 6 cells tho.

that sounds about good, seeing as i can always add a few more cells in the future. but would the 9L be faster with the same setup(maybe not same prop of course). thanks for all the help

I believe 9L would be faster. But it doesn't have the option of going upwards of 14 cells.

thats fine with me. i cannot decide between the supervee system and the feigo. this is the hardest part about rc, what to spend my very limited amount of money on.

What ever setup you choose, you will be more than happy with the possibilites of that combo.

I'm uncertain whether your looking for speed or not. If not I would think a brushed system would make more sense as it would be less expensive than brushless. This boat was designed to be run with 12 cells and a brushed 700 motor (it can certainly use a brushless motor as well). With good cells it will do over 30 mph with this setup.

Price wise it is fairly close. He wants to run 6 cells making a brushed 700 pretty weak.

i think i'm going to get the om26, the feigao, the pulso 70a esc, and run it on 6 cells for the time being. I plan on buying some better batteries in the future so i may run more cells. The esc can handle up to 15 cells but i would probably only go to 12.
i know that i could go brushed but i like brushless. Don't know why, i just overall would rather have brushless. i did consider the 700bb but on six cells, it would be too slow. i also think that the feigao for 40$ and the pulso esc for 60$ is pretty inexpensive, seeing as a good brushed esc/motor combo would cost around the same(right?)

another question, would the 40amp esc be plenty or should i go for the 70 amp. the 40 amp would save me a bit of money and the supervee esc is only 5 amps more, so is the 40a sufficient?

The 700 would be too slow on six cells, yes. I'm not sure about more than 12 in the OVM26. It will fit more but I think it would be a lot of weight for this hull. Like I said before it will do over 30 mph with 12 cells and a brushed 700 motor. With a brushless it would be even faster - maybe as fast as you want to go.

It would cost at least as much for a good brushed esc/motor combo - more actually.

Although I don't have experience with brushless systems 40A sounds low. You'd be safer to go with 70A. You won't save money if you burn the 40 up. For what it's worth I've calculated my 700 brushed setup on 12 cells is drawing about 40-45A with the props I use. Not sure how different that might be with the brushless sytem but probably would be in the same ballpark.

Wow, that's a hot set up. My data logger logs 32-36A with an X445 on a 27" mono using the Graupner 8.4v BB. At this rate, motor temps are around 65C with can and brush cooling.
