RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio
Sounds like a QC problem with the radio.
A little quicker getting on plane with just the one rudder, no surprise that you have to adjust the steering trim the first time.
Hammer prop (32mm vs. 30mm) was a bad idea. Boat wouldn't get on plane. Overpropped for the stock setup.

I did the piano drive .0047 wire , and added 2s lipo, this time with stock rx/esc (no glitching while using Lipo!!!). -and no left rudder, it seems to go a bit better this way. -the prop was damaged b4 this vid, so it could be faster.

What prop would be good? -link please and it should be from tower, or somewhere who can ship it to Finland -payment with visa , or mastercard.
Kmot, I also teared down the stock electrics(the crystal would be easy to change... -and use this esc/rx with proper radio), and fitted thickest wires that would fit on the circutry board
(the pics of the boat were taken with old wires)

RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio
I'm on vacation and trying to keep/catch up. Here are my opinions on a couple of subjects.
As for the battery connectors, yes I agree that the micro deans will work for stock setup, unless you hit some weeds then the amps will skyrocket and probably melt them. So why not just buy something that will hold much better. It is also good for future upgrades like someone else said.
As for the radio, I have had two boats with the same radio, the first one was my Profisherman and it glitched very bad no matter if I used my 2700mah NIMH or Alkalines. When I got the SV27 and I noticed it came with the same radio. It is not worth risking such an expensive boat with such a cheap radio, so I got rid of it imediatly.
If you are in this hobby for the long haul, go ahead and get yourself a good radio. JR happens to be my favorite. I have about 10 receivers that I put in various models of trucks, boats and cars. I have never had a single glitch with JR.
I recently bought the Spektrum system and I am VERY happy with it, and the receivers are very small.
I will be testing out various props with my brushless system in the near future.
Cheers everyone

dam[:@] -the servo broke, but that is not the whole story..... -after that i meseaured the current it draws with an volt meter, and poof! -SMOKE CAME OUT -from the circutry board -i know that i should have meseured it from wires...-but i thoughted that it will not hit anything..... -the tip of the meter shorted something.

Nice vid!
now you only need to get the vr3 motor! (have you seen my latest vid, posted above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjU-j2hdqGg ) -same set-up as yours +15$ vr3 motor.

yay....my good luck keeps going strongly...-i just hitted that red BUOY -at top speed -the hull broke[:-]!!! -and this time i left the camera to shore!
it de-glued the top from hull relativily cleanly(one tiny bit cracked away -but i found it, so i just ca´d it back together. tomorrow i will epoxy that seam.
The black rubberguard thingy is totalled... maby i just thow it away and use some fuel tube...
-But one good thing happened today... I ordered the Supervee 27 brushless!

More on the water cooling for the MR. You can see the routing of the silicone tubing: Water comes in, goes to one brush cooler, then to the other brush cooler, then to the face plate tube, then overboard.
I am JB Welding the tube to the face plate to increase the surface that gets cooled.
I also made a water pickup to go directly behind the prop and also a brass exit tube.

Ok...
I started to make a coil for the motor then realized it was to restrictive.
I also upgraded the ball links on the rudders like KMOT. My Ball links look much larger. They are #2-56 but my piano wire runner is way short. So something is different between ours.
Hoping to run tonight. Im a bit bummed about loosing a boat though...

Are there Sub C batteries in the stock set-ups? I am ordering the MR and need extra bats. What do you guys recommend keeping it NIMH not Lipo for now for longest run times without cooking motor and ESC? Thanks,Rick

Well for extra parts theres the prop and the rudder control arms, them are for sures to have.
Theres a few things I would do out of the box before running.
I would loosen the rudder control arms and beef them up with epoxy. Then I would do the piano wire drive. Follow that up with a longer antenna tube and enjoy.
If ya feel like it the ball link rudder linkage is worthwhile also. And of course the wire connectors.

Basstronics, thanks for the reply. This thread has become all brushless MR except for a handful of guys like you and Kmot. For those of us that don't have LIPO chargers and brushless ESC and Motors we get lost in the threads..... I have a Duratrax Digital that does NIMH only so I haven't gone the Lipo root yet. Just cleaned out my brushless large scale and this looks fun for now to play around with. I have wire and Ultra Deans etc. Rick

RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio
I have just coated the deck witk epoxy, soon the hull also! -it is so shiny!- looks like 10 coats of clearcoat... -i will paint it yellow this time, to make it look like mini sv27! (witch will be here tomorrow)
And i shaved the edges off, no that black rubber guard thingy anymore.

RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio
It would be cool to make it brushless but its like throwing money away.
$90 for the boat.
Gut it out, sell or shelf all internal equipment but servo? Just doest make sense to me. If I could buy a bare hull I would. Make that brushless and make my own hardware.
Ive been thinking about plugging the hull and making a fiberglass hull. They wont sell them... So I guess us hobby people have to do what we have to do.
